Master Sergeant (MSgt) Guy Hudson Jr, United States Air Force, passed away on 9 April 2022 at his residence in McAlester, after a long battle with cancer. Guy was born on 22 December, 1929 in Shady Point, OK to Guy and Pearl Inez (Johns) Hudson. He grew up in southeastern Oklahoma and lived with his mother in McCurtain after his father was killed in a coal mining accident in Bokoshe in 1943. At the age of 17, he left Oklahoma for California. He graduated from Folsom High School, CA and Eastern Oklahoma State Junior College. MSgt Hudson joined the US Air Force on 14 July 1948. He served honorably for over 20 years, during the Korean and Vietnam Wars, retiring on 31 July 1968. Specializing in military police operations, Guy's overseas assignments included tours in Japan and West Germany. He ended his career as the First Sergeant for the Security Police Squadron at Columbus Air Force Base, Mississippi. After his service in the US Air Force, Guy worked for the McAlester City Police Department for 14 months before beginning a second career in the US Postal Service, where he worked for 20 years until his retirement in 1990. MSgt Hudson's numerous military awards include the Air Force Commendation Medal (First Oak Leaf Cluster), the Air Force Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and World War II Army of Occupation Medal. Guy was loved by his German family and remained in close contact with them throughout his life. The son of a coal miner, Guy achieved great success in his life through hard work, discipline, dedication and the persistent encouragement of his wife. A resident of McAlester for over 50 years, he treasured the many friendships made and nurtured over the years. Guy is remembered for his kindness, generosity and active support of the St. John’s and St. Joseph’s Catholic Churches.
