Helen Louise (Otjen) Fagan

July 18, 1921 ~ April 11, 2013

ENID, Okla. - Helen Louise (Otjen) Fagan, a former McAlester resident, passed away Thursday, April 11, 2013, in Plano, Texas. She was born July 18, 1921, in Enid, Okla., to William J. and June (Cullison) Otjen.

Helen graduated from Enid High School in 1939. In 1943, she graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in home economics and was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority.

She began her working career as a home demonstration agent with the Oklahoma Natural Gas Co. in Oklahoma City.

She married William J. Fagan Dec. 11, 1943, in Enid.

After moving to McAlester at the end of World War II, she taught home economics at McAlester High School for several years. In the 1970s, she served as the executive director of Girl Scouts of America for the McAlester region.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in McAlester and was active in PEO Chapter AT in McAlester and the PEO Chapter in Overland Park, Kan.

She is survived by her sons, Bill Fagan Jr. and wife Carolyn of Fairview, Texas, and Tim Fagan and wife Pamela of Enid, Okla.; a sister, Caroline Baldi of Philadelphia, Pa.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her sisters, Mary Barns and Irene Otjen; and a brother, William Otjen Jr.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. today, April 16, 2013, in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, McAlester, Okla. Arrangements are by Bishop Funeral Service, McAlester, Okla.
