Ann Walker, 70, of McAlester, Oklahoma passed away on February 26, 2025 at the Oklahoma Heart Hospital South in Oklahoma City. Anna Lee Mosley Walker was the 10th child of Rev Earl and Odessa Mosley. She was born August 27, 1954, and was born on the go to McAlester, OK. She grew up most of her life in McAlester, Oklahoma and always said her best friends were her sisters and brothers. Ann, as she was known, attended L'Ouverture school up until the 7th grade and upon entering 8th grade began attending McAlester Jr High School. She graduated from McAlester High School in 1972 and truly enjoyed her high school years. Upon completing high school Ann attended Northeastern State University majoring in business. After leaving Northeastern, Ann attended Oklahoma State University where she received her banking/lending certifications from the Oklahoma Banking Association. Ann married Larry Eugene Walker and there were 3 children to this union. They made their home in Hartshorne, Oklahoma. Where she learned to enjoy country living and living off the land. She would try anything once but if it didn't go right the first time she wasn't going to do it again. Ann was a very independent and determined person as she displayed throughout her entire life instilling these same values in her children. Ann worked in many jobs before she started her banking career, first starting in high school working for NYC beginning at 14 years old. She later enrolled in DECA where she worked during school and after school at places like, Employment Security Commission, McAlester Navy Base, Soil Conservation Office, Across the Street Restaurant, and many other businesses. She also worked at Charles Komar and sons as well as Oklahoma Aerotronics in Hartshorne in the accounting office. Ann began her banking career in 1984 at First National Bank of McAlester where she was teller supervisor and in 1994 moved over to the Bank NA (Walmart Branch) where she was named assistant vice president/assistant branch manager. Ann was later promoted to vice president/ branch manager and was the first black to be a vice president/branch manager of a bank in the McAlester area. She served in that capacity until she retired in May of 2020. She loved banking and helping people with all their financial needs. Ann loved children and she understood that children are our future. She served on the McAlester board of education for 16 years and was the first black woman to serve on the board of education as president. She worked on the McAlester Literacy Council in order to help everyone learn to read because she knew reading is fundamental. Ann also served as treasurer of the NACCP and a member of the MLK Unity Choir. Ann was very active in church, she was the church clerk of Mt Triumph Missionary Baptist Church as well as a trustee on the finance committee, while being a dedicated choir member. She served as secretary for the McAlester area United Ministers Fellowship. She was the reigning queen and woman of the year of the Central Wayland District Oklahoma Baptist State Convention and recently was certified as dean of the Central Wayland District Association. She was a part of many committees including McAlester Ethics, L'Ouverture Restoration Committee, Grand Avenue Community Center, and Caring Hands. She truly enjoyed serving people and helping her community. Ann accepted Christ at the age of 6 years old and was baptized at the Mt. Triumph Baptist Church in McAlester, by her grandfather, Rev Frank Mosley and Pastor Rev. J.L. Hawkins. She knew even at an early age that serving the Lord was the only way to survive in this world and felt her biggest accomplishment in life was accepting God to order her steps. Ann always said let the work I've done speak for me!!!!! She loved everyone and never met a stranger! Ann leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Danny Lavelle (Sabrina) of McKinney, TX, Eugina Shantrell of McAlester, Angela Mae (Will) of McAlester and her bonus son, Ladell Eugene of McAlester. Her grandchildren, Daveon, Demontra Jr., Dre'Shaun, Adante', Adonis, Brianna, and Caitlyn. Her step grandchildren, Jaylen and Jayda. Her siblings, Mozella Chism of McAlester, OK, Charles Mosley (Sherry) of Sacramento, CA., Reedie Mosley (Rosemarie) Lawton, OK, Mary Petit (Randy) Tulsa, OK, Walter Mosley (Wilma) Edmond, OK, John Mosley of St Augustine, FL, Manuel Mosley (Sonja) Frisco, TX, Cynthia Woodford (Daniel) Gainesville, VA, Thressa Thomas of Tulsa, OK, Deborah Mosley-Heath (James) Upper Marlboro, MD. A host of nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev Earl and Odessa Mosley, her brothers: Earl Mosley Jr, and William Mosley; her sisters: Sharon Mosley, and Margaree Dorsey; and several other relatives. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 7, 2025 at the Chaney Harkins Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at Life Church, 1300 S. George Nigh Expressway, McAlester, Oklahoma. The burial will follow at Memory Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery.
