Charles "Charlie" Trover, age 83, died Sunday, April 16, 2017 at McAlester Regional Health Center. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at 10:00 am at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Terren Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Memorial Park under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home. Charlie Trover was born on August 1, 1933 in Long Beach, California to Jack and Clara (Smith) Trover. His family moved to Mt. Carmel, Illinois where Charlie grew up. He graduated from high school there, where he was an outstanding football player and was the first student there selected as a football all-stater. After graduating, he joined the U.S. Marines, serving for over 20 years, with 3 tours in Viet Nam. He married Patricia Burton on September 12, 1954 in Mt. Carmel, and for the next 20 years they lived in many different places. Upon his retirement from the Marines in 1973, they settled in McAlester. Charlie then formed Trover Security Service and provided security at the Army Ammunition Base for a number of years. Charlie loved to go elk hunting in Colorado with his hunting friends and was an excellent marksman, a skill learned while in the Marines. Charlie was a member of the Life Church in McAelster. He is survived by his wife, Pat Trover, of the home; 1 daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Johnny Bernardi; 1 son, Mike Trover; grandchildren, Holly Hackler and husband Shane, Kyle Bernardi and wife, Rachel, Lindsey Fassio and husband, Jason, Tiffany Winslow and husband, Joe; Jordan Trover, Rachel Trover; numerous great-grandchildren; sister, Jackie Kitchen; special friends, Warren Hollis, Patsy and Jerry McElhaney and friends at the Wellness Center. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Marc Trover. Active pallbearers are John Bernardi, Kyle Bernardi, Shane Hackler, David Tolman, Steve Saunier and Carl Hackler. Honorary pallbearers are Brett Brewer, Pete Manschreck, Bill Turney and Wade Turney.
