Elwina "Winnie" Mae (Bevans) Stone, 94, of McAlester, died Friday, October 1, 2021 at her residence. The family will greet friends and visitors from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Bishop Funeral Service. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at Bishop Chapel of Memories officiated by Rev. Jody Dominque. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons and great-grandsons. Elwina Mae was born to Joner Augusta and Ethel Mae (Hoggatt) Bevans on March 18, 1927 in Girard, Kansas. She grew up in Hartshorne and attended Hartshorne and Haileyville schools. Winnie graduated from Hartshorne High School. She married Charley L. Stone on March 2, 1946 in Hartshorne, and he preceded her in death on October 1, 1984. She worked as an accounting clerk for St. Mary's Hospital and McAlester Regional Health Center for over 31 years, retiring in 2000 at the age of 73. Winnie was a member of Victory Park Baptist Church for over 35 years. She enjoyed volunteering for the Victory Park Baptist Church Soup Kitchen for several years. Winnie also enjoyed reading the Bible, listening to gospel music, and completing puzzle books. She was preceded in death by her father: Joner August Bevans; mother: Ethel Mae Choate; stepfather: Robert Choate; son: Kenneth Stone; grandson: Christopher Bogard; great-grandson: Rodney Parker; brothers: Francis "Merlin" Bevans, Joner "Joe" Louis Bevans, Dale Bevans; infant brother: Tommie Wallace Bevans; sisters: Vonnie Pingleton, Alma Lozano; an infant sister: Helen Bevans; and son-in-law: Darrell Brummett. She is survived by his daughters: Carol Bogard and husband, Steve, Donna Brummett, Brenda Weeden and husband, Freddie; sons: Bobby Stone and wife, Gayla, all of McAlester, Rusty Fleming and wife, Lynda of Jay; grandchildren: Jeanie Goodall, Greg Bogard, Danell Brummett, Denise Barnhart and husband, Jeff, Dee Ann Befort and husband, Greg, Megan Stone, Brandon Stone, Miachel Uhack; great-grandchildren: Sara Parker, Bret Bogard, Matthew Bogard, Nicole Barnhart, Mary Elkins, Jonah Barnhart, Noah Barnhart, Micah Barnhart, Ariel Wigington, Skylar Pace, Kadi Uhack, Adelia Uhack, Liberty Uhack; great-great-grandchildren: Preston Helkimeyer, Elaina Elkins, Finley Elkins; daughter-in-law: Bonnie Stone; and numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends. The family wishes to thank the staff of Heartland Hospice and Dr. Stacy Hardy for their exceptional care of Winnie.
