Submitted by: Carol Spear Rice

Lenora (Kannady) Hance passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at her home in McAlester. The family will greet visitors on Sunday afternoon from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Bishop Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 21, 2022 at Bishop Chapel of Memories with Dr. M. Todd Cathey officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Riley Jack Hance, Daniel Bullard, Nicholas Hance, Gabriel Bullard, Cason Clagg, Tyler Jack Clagg, Micah Bullard, and Cole Jackson Cathey. Honorary pallbearers will be Shawn Clagg, Rob Hance, and John Austin Clagg. Lenora was born on June 1, 1927 to George Britton and Maudie Mae (Cox) Kannady in the "Chigger Hill" community of Plain View, Oklahoma - now known as Pocola, Oklahoma. Lenora married J.C. "Jack" Hance on November 24, 1945 after Jack served in Normandy, Rhineland Ardennes, England, Belgium, France, Luxembourg, and Germany during WWII. Lenora and Jack were charter members of North McAlester Free Will Baptist Church. She was the 8th of 9 children and was the youngest daughter. Jack was the 9th of 10 children and was the youngest son. The two of them were a perfect match—the babies of the family! Lenora became a Christian around 1956. She made a public profession of faith in Tannehill at the "Church Beside the Road" (actual name of the church). Lenora, Jack, Sharon, and Ronnie had just moved back to Oklahoma after Jack completed his service for the Korean War serving at Fort Hood, Texas; Fort Polk, Louisiana; and Fort Knox, Kentucky. A deacon named Brother O'Malley talked to Lenora and Jack about making Jesus the Lord of their lives. Jack and Lenora went to the altar that day and made a public decision to follow Christ. Lenora loved the Lord, her church, and her family. She retired in 1978 from the McAlester General Hospital in the Accounts Receivable Department as Financial Counselor, and spent her retired years pouring into the lives of her grandchildren. In fact, her superpower was being a wonderful gram. She was preceded in death by her parents: Britton and Maudie Mae Kannady; her husband: J.C. "Jack" Hance; her son: Ronnie O'Dell Hance; brothers: Cecil Kannady, Olen Kannady, Thirman Kannady, Preston Kannady, Clifford Kannady, and Gary Kannady; and sisters: Zelma Reaves and Thelma Cowell, affectionately known as "Aunt Pud." Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law: Sharon Kay and John Wayne Clagg; sister-in-law: Lois Kannady; grandchildren: Sheila and Todd Cathey, Lena and Brad Craig, Shawn and Carole Clagg, Robbie and Holli Hance, John and Tracy Clagg, Crystal and Greg Davis, Randi and Rodney Brinkley, and Riley Jack Hance; great-grandchildren: Daniel, Hailey, Molly, Gabe, Cason, Candice, Tyler Jack, Micah, Cole, Reed, Nicholas, Madison, Larick, Ronee Autumm, Emilee, Laramee, Tyler, Jordan, Eli, Ithica, and Brooklyn; great-great-grandchild: Raidyn; and many nieces and nephews.
