Selma Lou Butler, 87, of Yreka, California, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2021 at Madrone Hospice House in Yreka. The family will greet visitors from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 21, 2022 at Bishop Funeral Service and Crematory. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 22, 2022 at Bishop Chapel of Memories with Rev. Steve Mayhew officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery. The families of Selma Butler invite all funeral guests to a lunch reception following the funeral service. They will be gathering at the Comfort Suites Buffalo Room in McAlester, 650 S George Nigh Expressway. Pallbearers will be Stan Whitlow, Brad Whitlow, Brian Engleman, Roy Engleman, Rickey Corder, and Mike Butler. Selma was born on July 27, 1934 to Jacob and Aliene Engleman. She was raised in McAlester, Oklahoma. Selma married her high school sweetheart, Paul C. Whitlow, on July 25, 1953. The couple later moved to Fremont, California where she dedicated herself to raising their two sons, Stan and Brad. For more than twenty years she also worked at Ledeen's Stationery and Office Supply. She returned to McAlester in 1985 so she could be closer to her parents and family. Selma later married Aubrey "Leon" Butler on December 12, 2000. She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Selma was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church of McAlester. She loved to stay busy whether it was crocheting a special gift, baking for a church function, mowing the yards, gardening, or simply grabbing a cap and heading to the family pond to go fishing. Selma will be missed but never forgotten. Her survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law: Stan and Susan Whitlow, of Montague, California, Brad and Sara Whitlow, of Modesto, California; her stepson: Mike Butler of Tannehill; her brother and sister-in-law: Gwen and Pauline Engleman of McAlester; her aunts: Lestine Upshaw of Tulsa, Billie Mae Corder of McAlester; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Crystal Rizzo and family of El Dorado Hills, California, David Whitlow and family of Kalispell, Montana, Joseph and Keryn Whitlow (Wyatt and Gavin) of Riverbank, California, Joshua and Monelle Whitlow of Morgan Hill, California, Natalie Whitlow of Santa Monica, California, and Haley Butler of Tannehill; her niece and spouse: Danita and Tommy Williams of Council Hill, Oklahoma; her nephews and their spouses: Roy and Donna Engleman of McAlester, Brian and Lerena Engleman of Checotah; and her cousins and spouses: Rickey and Margaret Corder of McAlester, Kreela and Kevin Harmon of McAlester, and Donny and Nancy Moody of Tulsa. She was preceded in death by her husbands, parents, maternal grandparents: Boy and Clara Louella Hammontree Mouser, her paternal grandparents: Jacob and Molly Smith Engleman; and cousin: Larry Moody.
