Hassie Wood of Muskogee, formerly of Oklahoma City, departed this life on February 4, 2015. She was born January 15, 1937 in Ardmore, Oklahoma to Christine and Cortez Craddock. Her mother died of tuberculosis when she was 5 years old and she was raised by her grandmother, also named Hassie. A tomb-boy and strong willed girl, Hassie attended Catholic school as a young girl and graduated from Ardmore High School. She married and had children, moved to Oklahoma City and found herself a single mother with 5 children. She excelled at her work and with training and experience, she settled at the Lincoln Plaza Hotel and Convention Center where she worked a desk clerk, auditor and manger for over 20 years. She retired from the Oklahoma Department of Tourism in the late 1980s and moved to Lake Eufaula with her husband, Woody. She and Woody shared a life centered on their love of family and each other. Hassie's legacy for those who loved her is a memory of a woman who could do anything she decided to do. She was strong, smart and funny. She didn't care when or where you had the parade, as long as she could lead it. She will be missed. She was predeceased by her sister Marilyn Pledger of Oklahoma City. Hassie is survived by her husband, Ervin Reed Wood, Jr. of Muskogee; her sisters, Margaret Akers of Arizona and Carolyn Mills of Tulsa. Hassie is survived by her children Jimi Davidson and her husband Ken; Debbie Avance; Robert Bruner and his wife Kathy; Angela Johnson; Layne Akers and his wife Raquel; Reed Wood and his wife Susan; and Teresa Wood. She leaves 20 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 10 nieces and nephews, other family members and friends. A celebration of Hassie's life will be 2:00 P.M. Monday, February 9, 2015 at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel in Muskogee with Reverend Tom Shelton officiating. Funeral services are under the direction of Cornerstone Funeral Home, 1830 North York Street, Muskogee, OK. Condolences to the family may be made online at www.cornerstoneofmuskogee.com.
