Vernon Gregg, 68, of McAlester, died Monday, July 12, at his home. Funeral services will be Saturday, July 17, at 2:00 p.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Rob Lungstrom officiating. Burial will follow at Lone Grove Cemetery near Scipio. Pallbearers are Benny Mauldin, Joe Beck, Farrell Cunningham, Tyce Barlow, Fred Workman and Bill White. Honorary pallbearers are Mike Everett, Billy Vaughn, Veryl Hance and Benny Williams. The family will welcome friends for visitation on Friday, July 16, at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Vernon Gregg was born on Nov. 23, 1952 in McAlester, the son of Ira and Grace (Horton) Gregg. He lived all his life in the McAlester and Indianola area, and graduated from McAlester High School in 1971. He was a professional bull rider from 1971 to 1979, and was a true cowboy all his life. He worked as a carpenter for many years at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary until his retirement. He was of the Church of Christ faith. Survivors include Barbara Harkey of the home; a son, Dustin Gregg and grandson, Zayne Gregg, of Bugtussle; step-children, Tony and April Lehrling of Durant and Sherri and Gary St. John of Prosper, TX; step-grandchildren, Riley and Kyric Lehrling, and Kendall and Hudson St. John; 3 sisters, Irene Contreras and husband Joe of McAlester, Gloria Dunham of Antlers, and Phyllis Largent of Harrah; 3 brothers, Don Gregg and wife Judy of Visalia, CA, Roy Gregg and wife Arlene of Shawnee, and Raymond Gregg of Shawnee; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant grandson, Lance Gregg; brothers, Leon, Olan and Paul Gregg; a sister, Beneva Ann Cowell; and nieces and nephews, Donnie Ray Gregg, Melissa Cowell, Amanda Talmich, Julie Ann Gregg Beeton, and Kent Gregg.
