Norma Jean Coop of McAlester died Monday, October 31, 2016 at McAlester Regional at the age of 78. Jeanie was born to Fred and Ora (Christy) Benson on January 26, 1938 in Canadian. She graduated from Indianola High School in 1956. She married Billy Joe Coop in 1956 in McAlester. She was a faithful and loving wife to Bill for over 60 years. Jeanie enjoyed and loved her family very much and she would do anything possible for their spiritual and physical wellbeing. Jeanie is survived by her husband: Billy Joe Coop of the home; daughter: Kim Thomas and husband, David; son: Michael Coop; grandchildren: Jeremy Thomas and wife, Jeanelle, Jeff Thomas, Rachel Long and husband, Joe, Kelli Garcia and husband, John, Jennifer Sissom, all of McAlester. Also, great-grandchildren: Micah Thomas, Jake Thomas, Cody Thomas, Coda Thomas, Jacob Thomas, Noah Thomas, Wylie Long, Wynnley Long, Shelby Long, Kooper Long, Conner Coop, Taylor Garcia, Morgan Garcia, Bailey Sissom, and Harley Sissom; sister: Millie Preston; brother: J.B. Benson and wife, JoAnn, all of McAlester; and numerous other family members and friends. Jeanie was preceded in death by her parents: Fred and Ora Benson; brothers: Thomas Benson, Robert Benson, Kenneth Benson; sisters: Gladys Davenport, Lela Yates; and a great-granddaughter: Mariah Hope Thomas. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at North Town Church of Christ officiated by Mr. Kelly Benson and Mr. Jim Kelley. Burial will follow at Lone Grove Cemetery west of Scipio. Pallbearers will be Jeremy Thomas, Jeff Thomas, Joe Long, John Garcia, Micah Thomas, Jake Thomas, Jacob Thomas, and Noah Thomas. Honorary pallbearers will be Conner Coop, Harley Sissom, Cody Thomas, Shelby Long, and Kooper Long.
