Chaney-Harkins Funeral Home
Submitted by: Carol Rice

Frank was born on March 29, 1953, in Talihina, Oklahoma, to John and JoAnn (Sally) Pope. He was raised in Hartshorne, Oklahoma, where he graduated from high school and chose to spend the rest of his life. As one of seven siblings, Frank was deeply rooted in both family and community. His beloved daughter and four cherished grandchildren were the light of his life, bringing him endless joy and pride. A true sports enthusiast, Frank was a lifelong fan of the Oklahoma Sooners and the Dallas Cowboys. He shared that passion with his community by coaching countless little league teams over the years, leaving a lasting impact on generations of young athletes. On weekends, when he wasn't dedicating his time traveling to see one of his grandchildren play in a tournament somewhere, he loved to relax and watch a round of golf, basketball, or football depending on the season. Frank was known for his steady presence, generous spirit, and kind heart. Always cheering from the sidelines, supporting his loved ones, and finding joy in life's simple moments, he never hesitated to lend a helping hand. His sense of humor and love for laughter were trademarks-he was always ready with a funny joke or a well-timed gag gift. Whether lighting up a room with his charisma, making others laugh, or passionately discussing the latest game, Frank brought energy and warmth to every moment. His love for life, competitive nature, and playful spirit live on in each of his grandchildren-and in everyone lucky enough to have known him. Frank was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Howard Pope; brothers-in-law, C.A. Dunafan and Gary Gehring; nephews, Rodrick "Bosco" Pope and Elijah Yellseagle; and great-nephew, Alex Davison Jr. He is survived by his daughter, Whitney Pope, and her husband, Harold Meashintubby Jr. of McAlester; four grandchildren: Raigen Leflore and husband Ian of Fort Gibson, Oklahoma, and Raina, Boog, and Noah Meashintubby of McAlester. He is also survived by his siblings: John Pope Jr. and Reba of McAlester, Edwina Gehring of McAlester, Barbara Lann and Jim of Cushing, Oklahoma, Karen Yellseagle, Lora "Boo" Dunafan, and Lindsy "Jo" Moody all of Hartshorne, Oklahoma; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday, April 25, 2025, at Chaney-Harkins Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Chaney-Harkins Funeral Chapel in McAlester, Oklahoma, officiated by Lacey Arreola. Burial will follow at Hickory Grove Cemetery in Haywood, Oklahoma. Pallbearers will be Harold Meashintubby Jr., Ian Leflore, Boog Meashintubby, Noah Meashintubby, Chris "Bubba" Dunafan, and Ty Williams. Honorary pallbearers are Phil Lay and all nephews
