The family will welcome friends at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home in Hartshorne on Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Hartshorne Elementary School Activity Center with Dan Denny officiating. Honorary pallbearers are George Gunagan, Leon Burke, Wayne Jones, Sidney Collins, Bob Baldwin, Larry Sartin and Dale's nephews. Dale Spears was born on May 19, 1934, in Hartshorne, to Norris and Nellie (Fesperman) Spears. He grew up here and had lived here all his life. He married Betty Fern Monroe in the spring of 1955. He also served in the United States Army and the Army National Guard for a number of years. Dale worked for the State Department of Human Services as a supervisor of the commodities warehouse for 33 years. Dale loved music and started playing the guitar as a teenager, and with his band, Dale Spears and the Fugitives, he entertained hundreds of people in the Pittsburg County area at local dances and other events for over 70 years. He also served on the board of directors of the Pittsburg Farmers Union for many years. Dale looked forward every year to deer season, when he would spend time at the family's deer cabins and enjoy time with family and friends. In addition to a career with the state, Dale loved to ranch and farm and took great pride in winning the highest percentage of protein in his hay in Pittsburg County for several years. With all his activities, probably his favorite time was the family reunions, where he loved being the center of attention and visiting with all the family members. Dale is survived by his wife, Betty, of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and Stan Owens, and Glenda and Rodney Zike; one son and daughter-in-law, David and Kelli Spears; grandchildren, Jessica, James Dale, Janai, Rachele, Chris, Amy, Meagan, Charity, Rodney, Tisha, Dava and John David; 28 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren, and three sisters, June Dollins, Carolyn Mordecai, and Linda Fox. He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents, James and Maggie Fesperman, and J.D. and Candy Spears; two grandchildren, Kelli Sue Fry and Stormy Miller, and two brothers, Ronnie and Billy Earl Spears.
