Dr. Eddie Mae Kelly, educator, community leader, musician, and devoted woman of faith, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2026, in McAlester, Oklahoma, at the age of 80. A graveside memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 29, 2026 at Elm Park Cemetery in Hartshorne, Oklahoma with Pastor Aaron Williams officiating. Born June 24, 1945, in Krebs, Oklahoma, to Eddie Walter Gordon and LueAnne Jackson. Dr. Kelly dedicated her life to education, mentorship, and public service. She attended Eastern Oklahoma State College, Northeastern State University, and earned her PhD from the University of Missouri, Kansas City. Dr. Kelly served as principal of Knott Elementary School in Kansas City, Missouri, inspiring generations of students and educators. She later served as Executive Director of CASA Southeast Oklahoma and as a member of the Hartshorne City Council. She was also passionate about youth mentorship and community programs. A gifted musician, Dr. Kelly played piano and clarinet and founded the first Oklahoma State Choir while in college. She was a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, and enjoyed travel, fashion, art, and nature. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruben Gordon and LueAnne Jackson; her children, Eric De'Shawn Kelly and Dr. Nichole Ca'Mille Kelly; her brother, Edward Robinson; and her nephew, William Edward Robinson. She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Winston O'Neal Kelly (Kecia Kelly); grandchildren, Khyri Andre Kelly, Paiten Deshawn Parrish (Adarious Parrish), and Alexis Nikole Kelly; great-grandchild, Phoenix Kamille Parrish; niece, Golda Robinson; nephew, Eddie Robinson; and a host of family, friends, former students, and community members. Her legacy of faith, compassion, excellence, and service will live on for generations.
