Pittsburg Calvary Cemetery



Dorothy Jean Smyth, 99, of Pittsburg, Oklahoma passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home surrounded by her family. Viewing will be held on Thursday, December 24, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Chaney Harkins Funeral Home. A graveside funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 26, 2020 at the Pittsburg Cemetery, Pittsburg, Oklahoma with Mr. Paul Shannon officiating. The burial will follow under the direction of Chaney Harkins Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Eric Capehart, Aaron Shannon, Colton Scott, Cecil Church, Roger Lane, and Dennis Scott. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Griffin, Phillip Scott, Harold Fry, T.J. Shannon, Johnny Scott, Jeremy Scott, Don Caudill, and Bennie Whitworth. Dorothy was born on December 20, 1921 in Cairo, Oklahoma to John Wesley Scott and Annie (Nash) Scott. She married Gerald Capehart in 1944 whom preceded Dorothy in death in 1978. Dorothy married J.N. Smyth, Jr. in 1985 and preceded her in death in 2015. Dorothy was a faithful member of the Pittsburg Baptist Church. She enjoyed her family, her farm and her friends. She is survived by her daughter: Shirley Swain and husband, Clyde of Pittsburg; her son: Randy Capehart and wife, Brenda of Kiowa; her grandchildren: Sherri Fry and husband, Harold of Kiowa, Pat Shannon and husband, T.J. of Pittsburg, Kay Scott and husband, Jeremy of Pittsburg, and Eric Capehart and wife, Chelsea of Blanco; her great grandchildren: Fallon, Colton, Aaron, Brett, Dusty, and Cody; her brother: Don Scott and wife, Minnie of Pittsburg; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other family and friends. Dorothy is also preceded in death by her parents: John and Annie Scott; her brothers: Lee Scott, Robert Scott, Roy “Jack” Scott; and a sister: Juanita Lane.
