Johnny M. Johnston, 76, of Pittsburg, died Sunday, Jan. 17, at McAlester Regional Health Center. The family will welcome friends at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home on Wednesday, Jan. 20, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Graveside funeral services will be Thursday, Jan. 21, at 2:00 p.m. at the Pittsburg Cemetery pavilion, with Dee Wood, Jr. officiating. Johnny Johnston was born on Feb. 25, 1944 in McAlester to Thomas and Pauline (Coulston) Johnston. He grew up in Pittsburg and has lived his entire life there, except for a short time in Tulsa. He married Irene Eberle on Feb. 25, 1966. Johnny had worked at different places, but his main work was with the Pittsburg School district, working in their maintenance department. He retired after 33 years, but they asked him to come back, so he went back for a few more years. Johnny loved to collect coins, and enjoyed the company of his dog, Tinkerbell, who he took with him to the post office and on other errands. Johnny is survived by his wife of 55 years, Irene Johnston; his children, Pamela Ellis and husband Danny, Paula Thompson, and Caren Johnston; grandchildren, Aaron Ellis, Aimee Ellis, Laura Turner, Kari Turner, and Jenni Turner; great grandchildren, Bryan Turner and Ophelia Ellis; and a brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Bonnie Johnston; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Cathy Johnston, and 3 brothers, Joe Don, Tommy and Harold.
