Allan Echols, 76, of Hartshorne, died Sunday, Nov. 22, 2015 at his home. He was born March 16, 1939 in Pittsburg, to Allan K. and Dorothy (Kicklin) Echols. His parents died when he was a small boy and he then made his home with Claude and Bessie Sullivan. He graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1958. He started riding bulls and working on ranches in Colorado, Oklahoma and Texas until 1975 when he went to work for the city of Sherman, Texas. From 1985 until 2002 he drove trucks cross country for Gulf Coast of Dallas, Texas. He moved back to Pittsburg in 1995. He later worked for Smith Construction, driving trucks and running heavy equipment. In 2002 he began working for Hartshorne Public Schools as a bus driver until his retirement. He married Shirley Hollis of Hartshorne on April 24, 1999 in Pittsburg. They have made their home east of Hartshorne in the #10 community. Allan loved rodeos. He rode bulls when he was young. Him and Ralph broke horses for other people and rode horses as long as his health permitted. His biggest joy was being able to go and watch his grandson Keaton ride bulls. His hobby was raising chickens and playing guitar. He was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Echols of the home; grandson, Keaton Moody of the home; daughters and a son-in-law: Tonya Shumard of Broken Arrow, Trenna and Troy Zickefoose of Sand Springs; grandchildren and spouses, Todd and Courtney May of Perry, Casey and Ronnie Wilson of Perry, Emily May of Perry, Sky and Rusty Shaffer of Broken Arrow, Christopher and Jennifer Zickefoose of Broken Arrow, Jessie Zickefoose of Mannford; great-grandchildren, Asa and Maggie May; Gatlin, Blake, Bryant and Brady Wilson; Aiden and Honey Shaffer; McKayla, Callie, Hayley and Brasen Zickefoose; stepdaughters, Sandy Haikey of McAlester, Debi Beck of Haileyville, Jan Robison of Holdenville, Kristi Hollis of Wilburton; step-grandchildren, Jeremy Beck, Nathan Haikey, Laren Robison, Kyle Robison, Clayton Moody; step great-grandchildren, Jaycee and Kaleb Robison, Emma Beck, Ansli, Olivia, Zachary and Hadley Haikey; and foster brother Ralph Sullivan. He was preceded in death by his parents, foster parents and step granddaughter, Andrea Hollis. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home Chapel in Hartshorne with Larry Griffin officiating. Internment will be at Pittsburg Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of Hartshorne. Pallbearers will be Jim Sullivan, Joe Sullivan, Danny Baldwin, Crockett Hutson, Henry Hutson and Clayton Hutson. Honorary pallbearer will be John Wood.
