Earlene (Castleberry) Upchurch, 89, of McAlester, died Wednesday, July 7, 2021 in McAlester at a local nursing center. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 9, 2021 at the North Town Church of Christ officiated by Mr. Kelly Benson. Burial will follow at Ash Creek Cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Brewer, Jerry Morris, Rick Higgins, Mike Maffeo, Steve Weeks, and Dale Yount. Honorary pallbearers will be Allen Boatright, Oben Weeks, John Carano, Jim Kelly, and Charles Null. Earlene was born to George F. and Lillian E. (Bell) Castleberry on November 28, 1931 in Stuart. She attended Stuart school. She married Otis Eugene "Gene" Upchurch on April 17, 1959 in Poteau. She worked as a floor attendant at Komar and as an in-home health care provider. She was a member of North Town Church of Christ. Earlene loved baseball and was a Texas Ranger fan. She was also an avid reader. Rae Lynn would check books out for her at the library and Earlene read at least one a week. She was preceded in death by her father: George F. Castleberry; mother: Lillian E. Castleberry; sisters: Helen Jean Null, Wanda Morris; and a brother: Ray W. Castleberry. Earlene is survived by her nieces: Rae Lynn Upchurch of Krebs, Karla Brooks of Tuskahoma, Rita Mosley of Oklahoma City; nephew: Ray Sheppard and wife, Sabrina of Jamestown, Kentucky; special friends: Dorothy Young and John Carano; and other family members and friends.
