EUGENE "GENE" PRICE

April 15, 1929 - July 27, 2018

Eugene Elmo “Gene” Price, 89, of Stillwater, OK passed away on Friday, July 27, 2018 at Westhaven Nursing Home in Stillwater, OK. Arrangements are under the care of Dighton-Marler Funeral Home of Stillwater. Funeral service will be held on Friday, August 3, 2018 at 2:00pm at the Mehan Union Church with Larry Eslinger officiating.

Gene was born in Gate, Oklahoma known as the Gateway to the panhandle, on April 15, 1929 to Bert and Thelma (White) Price.

He was very young but remembered the Dust Bowl Days and Black Sunday. It was hard times but everyone helped each other to survive.

His dad was a horseman and Gene followed in his footsteps, starting at age 3 riding. At 9, he and his dad rounded up cattle for shipping on the Big Ranches of the Barbies, Sizelove, Luckies and whoever needed them. Gene and his sister rode a horse to school or used a buggy. As he grew older, he went to harvest with his family. He loved being outside and was a hard worker.

In 1948 he met and married his wife, Ramona Green after 3months courtship that has lasted 69 years and 10 months. She was his soul mate, best friend and caregiver.

In 1951 daughter, Glenda Fay was born and in 1955 daughter, Roma Gene.

In 1957 they moved to Stillwater to be closer to his wife’s family. A week later he went to work for Lambert Construction and worked over 30 years.

The family bought a horse ranch I 1967 and boarded horses, broke and trained timed event horses. He also done his own shoeing. It was called the Rocking P Stables and that brand was held by the Price family for many years. He also raised registered longhorns.

The family helped with horse shows, Rodeos, and play days in all the area. Gene was a life time member of the Ripley Roundup Club.

The last few years, he and his wife went on may trail ride, wagon rides, and parades in several states. He enjoyed driving his horse and two wheeled cart or a team and wagon. Once a cowboy, always a cowboy!

Gene is preceded in death by his father; mother; a sister, Marguerete Bond; daughter, Glenda; and nephew, Delbert Bond. He is survived by wife, Ramona of the home; daughter, Roma Gene Brunton and husband Bill; nephews, Gerland Bond and wife Karen, Dennis Bond and wife Sue; and many wagon trainers, trail riders, Mehan Union Church family and many nieces, nephews and friends.
