ROBERT STEPHEN LANGDON

1952 - 9 Jul 2018

On July 9, 2018 after a two year battle with cancer, Robert Stephen (Steve) Langdon died peacefully at his Stillwater Oklahoma home with his family at his side. He was 65 years old. His funeral service will be held at 10 am on Friday at the Lost Creek United Methodist Church in Stillwater. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements

Steve was born in Okmulgee, Oklahoma to Robert Earl and JoRena (McVay) Langdon where he lived through his high school graduation. He was a star athlete excelling in football at Okmulgee High school. He was a defensive monster and was very proud that his 1969 bulldog team won the Oklahoma state football championship and were state runners-up in 1970. He received a football scholarship to East Central State College and later graduated from North Eastern State University. He married the love of his life, Janet Sue Evans, on May 19th, 1973. They enjoyed 45 years of marriage.

His love of sports and the many influential coaches in his life gave him a passion to do the same. Steve’s teaching career spanned three decades. He taught both junior high and high school history in Dewar, Perkins and Blackwell, Oklahoma and was active in coaching both high school baseball, basketball and football. His love of teaching both in the classroom and on the field was evident to all who had the privilege of learning from him. He was very proud to win Blackwell teacher of the year and was proud of the many students and athletes he was able to serve. Steve retired from teaching in 2010 and lived the last few years of his life in Stillwater with his wife Janet and nearby his beloved two children and their six grandchildren. Steve was a long-time member of Blackwell United Methodist Church and Stillwater’s Lost Creek United Methodist Church.

He was an avid O.S.U. Cowboy football, baseball and basketball fan and held season tickets in all 3 sports. He attended numerous contests and bowl games and loved to proudly wear his OSU orange. Steve had a lifelong passion for St. Louis Cardinals baseball and he, Janet and the kids loaded up many summers to spend weeks together at Busch Stadium rooting on their Cardinals.

His love of teaching, O.S.U. sports and St Louis cardinal baseball was only surpassed by his love of Christ and his dedication to his family. His team was made up of his loving wife, Janet, daughter Kristi and husband David Howey and son Danny and wife Emily Langdon. He was proud of his grandpa title and honored to live nearby his 6 grandchildren, Makenna, Zach, Jake Howey and Jett, Gentry and Jensyn Langdon.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Evans Langdon (Stillwater), daughter, Kristi and husband David Howey (Stillwater); son, Danny and wife Emily (Crone) Langdon (Stillwater); six grandchildren, all of Stillwater. One brother, Jim Langdon wife Cathy (Brevard), of North Carolina; one sister, Connie Jo and husband, Al Lawrence (Moore, OK); numerous other loved nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Steve Langdon was a quiet, loyal, loving teacher and family man. His race is run. He fought the good fight and was a good and faithful servant. His life was a grand slam and he has now rounded third and is resting safely at home in the arms of his Savior.
