Edith [Tatro] Haraughty
October 4, 1917 ~ July 11, 2012

Edith T. Haraughty, 94, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed peacefully as she was surrounded by family on Wednesday , July 11, 2012.

Edith was born in a farmhouse in Woods County, Oklahoma, on October 4, 1917, to Vera A. Tatro and Leslie Tatro. She graduated from Northwestern University in Alva, Oklahoma where she met and married Charles T. Haraughty in 1937. They raised four children together and were married 47 years when he passed.

Edith was awarded both a Masters Degree in Education and a Doctorate in Education from Oklahoma State University. She moved to Tahlequah when she joined the faculty of Northeastern State University.

She was a professor of Education and Psychology and taught graduate students to teach reading and diagnose reading disorders. She was very proud of her educational achievements and was an avid lifelong promoter of higher education and Oklahoma State University, in particular.

Her hobby was quilting and she was known for the many beautiful and complicated quilts she created not only for family and friends, but donated to various charities. She was a member for many years of the Cookson Quilting Bees, where she made many friends.

Edith is preceded in death by her parents, her three brothers, her husband, her son, James Patrick Haraughty, and her grand daughter, Caren Louise Haraughty.

She is survived by her children and their spouses; John L. [and Norma] Haraughty, David C. [and Susan] Haraughty, and Janelle H. [and Douglas] Brooks. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to especially thank the wonderful caring women who helped and supported them during her final months. The abundance of kindness our Mother received will never by forgotten.
