Ralph Lloyd Hamilton, 84, died on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. His memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 12th at the St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Stillwater. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ralph was born on November 21, 1928 in Hillsboro, Ohio to the late William J. and Bessie [Ford] Hamilton. A well educated man, he received a Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Economics from Ohio State University in 1949, a Master's degree in Agricultural Journalism from the University of Wisconsin in 1955, and a Doctorate in Mass Communication, also from the University of Wisconsin, in 1969.

Following his graduation from Ohio State, he joined The Ohio Farmer magazine as an Assistant Editor until he entered the military in 1951. After two years in the military, he returned to The Ohio Farmer. In 1955, he became the Assistant Agricultural Editor at Michigan State University.

In 1961, Ralph was hired by the University of Tennessee as Professor and Chairman of Agricultural Education. He and his family moved to Stillwater in 1973 where he assumed the role of Director of Public Relations at Oklahoma State University.

Ralph was a member of AAACE, Sigma Delta Chi, Alpha Zeta, Gamma Sigma Delta, the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education, Epsilon Sigma Phi, and the Stillwater Lions Club. He was also on the board of directors for Friends of the Oklahoma Museum of Higher Education. He retired from OSU in January 1993 after 17 years as Director for Information and Publication Services, and three years in the Office of the Vice President for University Relations and Public Affairs. His retirement years were spent in domestic and foreign travel and participating in community activities.

Ralph was a loving mentor for his children and the love of his wife's life.

He is survived by his wife, Joanne Hamilton; daughters, Beth Hamilton [Ruben] and Meg Coots [Jerry]; son, Drew Hamilton [Debbie]; grandchildren, Jarryd, Kasey, Trey, Will and Spencer; and great-granddaughters, Brooklyn and Harley.
