Thomas Burt Gwin
September 19, 1023 ~ January 30, 2001


Thomas Burt Gwin, 77, was an avid reader and loved woodworking. He died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at Stillwater Medical Center.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Chaplain David Otten officiating. Services are under the direction of Strode Funeral Home.

Gwin was born Sept. 19, 1923, in Cleveland to John Robert and Jessie Mae (Storms) Gwin. He married Georgia Louise Owens in Cleveland March 26, 1948. Gwin retired from the U.S. Navy as a senior chief engineman after 34 years, was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict and Vietnam era.

He was also retired from OSU in the electronics research lab. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Gwin was predeceased by his parents, one son, Thomas Dale Gwin, three brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, John L. and his wife Patricia of Stillwater, David Ples and his wife Karen of Campobello, S.C., Daniel O. and his wife Christine of Stillwater, Austin B. of San Diego, Calif.; two daughters, Patricia Haley and her husband John of Burleson, Texas and Sherly Horinek and her husband David of Ponca City; 11 grandchildren; Also, four brothers-in-law, Wayne and Barbara Owens of Huntsville, Ala., Kenneth and Sherry Owens of Osage, Leo and Phyllis Owens of Tulsa, Cecil Owens of Cleveland and Louise Owens of Blackwell, and other relatives. Georgia Louise [Owens] Gwin
May 23 1926 ~ March 4, 2010


Georgia Louise Gwin, 83, of Stillwater, Oklahoma passed away on March 4, 2010. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday March 8, 2010 at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Stan Warfield will be officiating. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Georgia was born in Rogersville, Missouri on May 23, 1926 to William Lester Owens and Martha Ellen Lassley. She married Thomas B. Gwin on March 26, 1948 in Cleveland, Oklahoma. She was a long time member of Payne County Home Extension Clubs. She worked on the Payne County Board. She was a devoted home maker who loved cooking and baking, hand crafts such as knitting and crocheting.

She is preceded in death by her husband, son Thomas Dale Gwin and eight brothers.

She is survived by her son, John L. Gwin and his wife Patricia of Stillwater, OK; daughter, Patricia Haley and her husband John of Burleson, TX; son David P. Gwin and wife Karen of Campobella S.C.; Sheryl Horinek and her husband David of Newkirk, OK; son Daniel O. Gwin and wife Christine of Stillwater, OK:, son Austin Gwin and his friend Troy Cook of Tulsa, Ok. She has eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She as well had four brothers.

Memorial contributions may be made to Salvation Army.
