Edward Lee Granstaff, 89, died on June 26, 2010 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, July 11, 2010 at the Strode Funeral Home Chapel. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He was born on February 6, 1921 in Pryor, Oklahoma to William and Della Granstaff. He married Marcia Jean Livingston on September 24, 1943 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the American Society of Agronomy, the Alpha Zeta Honor Society, Epsilon Sigma Phi and Farmhouse Fraternity.

Ed joined Oklahoma A&M College – now known as OSU – Army ROTC in 1943. During WWII he sailed to England aboard the ship Ile de France and crossed the English Channel on June 17, 1944, to land in Normandy, France. He was wounded August 3, 1944, during an assault to seize ground near Villedieu les Poeles, France, and again in March 1945 during operations in the "Forest of Death" in the Zweifall, Germany area. On September 4, 1946, Ed was honorably discharged with the rank of first lieutenant.

During his professional career, he worked as an Agricultural Agent at the Union Equity Cooperative Grain Exchange in Enid, Oklahoma from 1947-48; as Extension Grain Marketing specialist at OSU from 1948-50; as Regional Grain Marketing Specialist at USDA from 1950-53; as Extension Crop Specialist at OSU, and Secretary-Treasurer of the Oklahoma Crop Improvement Association from 1953-1979; and Vice President of Great Plains Research Company from 1979-1992.

Edward conferred with FAO officials at Rome, Italy on seed improvement programs in under-developed countries in 1971. He attended the Association for Advancement of Agriculture Sciences in 1971 at Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. He was President of the Association of Official Seed Certifying Agencies in 1972-73; Chairman of the National Certified Alfalfa Review Board in 1967-68; Secretary-Treasurer of the Oklahoma Seedsman's Association and president of the Oklahoma Seed Trade Association.

He is survived by his wife, Marcia Granstaff, of Stillwater, Oklahoma; son, William E. Granstaff, of Oklahoma City; son, Michael P. Granstaff and wife Julie, of Prairie Village, Kansas; daughter, Kristen J. Granstaff, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; sister, Wanda Boothroyd, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; sister, Kathryn Srader, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; and four grandsons, Daniel and David Sparks, Jonathan and Jackson Granstaff.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Edward's honor to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, 406 West 34th St., Kansas, City, MO 64111.
