Fineus E. Godfrey, 74, died Tuesday, November 30, 1993, at his home.

Services are scheduled for 10:30 am Monday, December 6, at Strode Chapel with the Rev John Ware officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Strode Funeral Home.

Godfrey was born December 26, 1918, In Booneville, Ark, to Herbert and Mollie [Bassinger] Godfrey.

He graduated from Booneville High School in 1927. In 1942, he enlisted in the US Army Air Corps and served in the Eurpean theater of operations in World War II. He was a staff sergeant when he was shot down in Belgium and was a prisoner of war for 13 months in Austria. After being liberated, he returned to Askansas in 1945.

He married Nellie Bernice Glass on September 27, 1947. She died February 21, 1986.

Godfrey moved to Stillwater also in 1947 and worked for E. H. Harwell Construction Co. In 1954, he started his own company, Godfrey's Construction. In 1960, he went to work for Shelton Construction Co, where he worked until retirement in 1986.

He was a member of the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans and Stillwater Travel Club. He was a charter member of the Stillwater Boat Club and the Weeping Willow Garden Club. He was an avid gardner and enjoyed tree grafting. He also enjoyed traveling with his friends and the Stillwater Travel Club.

He was a member of the Hillcrest Christian Church.

Godfrey was predeceased by his parents, wife and three brothers.

Survivors include three sons, Jack Godfrey of Fort Smith, Ark, Ben R. Godfrey of Stillwater and Eddie Godfrey of Midwest City; one daughter, Mrs William T. [Kay] Brunton of Tulsa; one sister, Mrs Helen Hoffman of Bellaire, Texas; nine grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
