© Stillwater News Press Stillwater, Oklahoma October 17, 2008 Edwin Eugene "Ed" Glover March 29, 1922 ~ October 14,, 2008 Edwin Eugene Glover, a Stillwater resident, died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2008, in the Meadowbrook Specialty Hospital in Tulsa. Mr. Glover was 86 years old. Edwin was born March 29, 1922, in the home of his great-grandfather, John Ash, to William E. and Grace [Andrews] Glover. Edwin grew up enjoying the outdoors and roaming his grandparents' homestead staked during the land run. Edwin attended school at Pleasant Valley and Stillwater High School, graduating with the class of 1940. He was awarded varsity letters in wrestling three years in a row. Ed married Mary L. Hall on Jan. 18, 1941. They had two children, Linda Kay and Tom, who Ed described as "wonderful citizens." Mary preceded Ed in death in 1999. Ed served his country honorably in the United States Army during World War II. He was stationed in various places during his tour and served under Gen. George Patton. He was captured by the enemy and was a Prisoner of War from September of 1944 until May of 1945. During his service, Ed earned numerous awards and citations. They include: Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Presidential Unit Citation with Palm, POW Medal, ETO Ribbon with two battle stars, the American theatre medal, Victory Medal and Medal of Valor, State of Oklahoma. Following his service in the Army, Ed worked for Oklahoma A&M College. He began working in the comptrollers' office as an assistant accountant in 1947, was promoted to assistant chief accountant and internal auditor in 1965; in 1970, he was promoted to director and department head of internal audits and on Dec. 31, 1987, he retired with 40 years of combined service to Oklahoma A&M and Oklahoma State University. Ed was a member of the Association of College and University auditors and was elected national president in September of 1974. He was a member of the National Society of Scabbard and Blade and was elected national commander in 1970. He was named "Home Town Hero" in March of 2000. Ed was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 129, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Military Officers of America and National Society of Scabbard and Blade. Ed is preceded in death by his wife, Mary; and his two brothers, Kenneth and Richard Glover. Edwin is survived by his son, Thomas E. Glover and wife, Linda, of Broken Arrow; his daughter, Linda Kay Mahar and husband, John S., of Mission Viejo, Calif.; his grandchildren, Lisa K. Mahar and Ryan S. Mahar, of Mission Viejo, Natalie Nirk, Sean Glover and Lara Friend of Broken Arrow, Savannah Nirk, Ava Nirk and Gloria Friend of Broken Arrow; great-grandson, Arthur J. Mahar of Mission Viejo; and one brother, Robert Glover. He will also be missed by a host of other family and friends. At the family's request, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to: The American Cancer Society, The American Heart Association, The Edwin E. Glover ROTC Leadership Development Scholarship at Oklahoma State University, The Pleasant Valley School Fund, in care of Palmer Marler Carberry Funeral Home, or the Payne County Audubon Society. Funeral services for Edwin Eugene Glover will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Palmer Marler Carberry Funeral Home Chapel in Stillwater. Burial will immediately follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Stillwater. Services have been entrusted to Palmer Marler Carberry Funeral Home of Stillwater.
