Nancy June [Forsberg]
June 10, 1930 ~ March 1, 2010

Nancy June Giles, 79, passed away after a lengthy illness on March 1, 2010 at Grace Living Center in Stillwater. A memorial service was held at 4 p.m. on Monday, March 8, 2010, at Highland Park United Methodist Church with the Reverend Derrek Belase officiating. Strode Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

She was born on June 10, 1930 in New York City to Carl H. Forsberg and Naomi [Sundquist] Forsberg. At an early age, her family moved to Summit, New Jersey, where she was raised. She attended school in Summit, graduating from Summit High School in 1948. She attended Wooster College in Ohio for one year, then accepted employment as Secretary to the Head of Accounting for Avon Products in New York City. She continued her education, attending night classes at the University of New York.

On March 14, 1953, she married her high school sweetheart, Richard W. Giles, at Summit, New Jersey. Shortly thereafter, the couple moved to Stillwater, Oklahoma, where he was employed with the Stillwater Fire Department. The couple had three children, Robert, David, and Donald.

In 1977, Nancy returned to school as an "older" student and, with high grades, earned her degree in Sociology from OSU in 1978. She continued her education at OSU until 1988 with courses in Business.

Over the years, she was employed at First Methodist Church, the Payne County Guidance Center, and the Agriculture Engineering Department at OSU. She retired from OSU in June of 1995.

Always interested in improving herself, she joined Professional Nancy June Giles 1930 - 2010 Secretaries International (now the International Association of Administrative Professionals) and served as a Division Officer for Arkansas and Oklahoma. Following her retirement, she served this group as Liaison to the Retired Members in her district. She gained her accreditation as a Certified Professional Secretary in 1975, having passed the grueling two day test required on her first attempt, a rare feat at the time.

Nancy was a Charter Member of the Highland Park United Methodist Church and was active in United Methodist Women, the Saturday Circle, and many other activities of the church. She particularly enjoyed teaching young children in Sunday School, which she did for a number of years.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister.

She is survived by her husband, Richard, of the home; her sons, Robert and wife, Nancy, and children, Rodney, Jennifer, Rachel, and Thomas, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; David and wife, Cathy, and children, Amanda and Christopher, of Lee's Summit, Missouri; and Donald and wife, Christine, and children, Andrew, Matthew, Aaron, Casey, Kelly, and Sera, of Midwest City, Oklahoma; one brother, the Reverend Robert Forsberg of Oakland, California; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601, or the Highland Park United Methodist Church, 524 North Stallard, Stillwater, OK 74074.

Condolences may be e-mailed to the family and an online obituary may be viewed by visiting www.strodefh.com.
