Hoover Page Fisher PhD


STILLWATER, Okla. — Hoover Page Fisher of Stillwater peacefully passed on Thursday April 28, 2011.

Born on Dec. 10, 1928 to DVM Roy Fisher and Leticia Mae Gripe-Fisher, he had a full and wonderful life. He attended Stillwater High School, and O.S.U. receiving a Bachelors and Master Degree. He was married to Loretta Colbert on Aug. 18, 1950 and raised three sons. In 1969 he received a PhD from the University of Oklahoma after teaching High School in Bartlesville, Borger Texas, Guymon and Durant.

He moved back to Stillwater in 1965 to teach at OSU for 22 years. His distinguished career included leadership positions Oklahoma Choir Directors Assn, Oklahoma Music Educators Assn., Music Educators National Convention, Oklahoma School Music News, Choir Director of the First Christian Church, was named Outstanding Music Department Graduate of OSU, was named to the OMEA Hall of Fame, and was listed in Who's Who in the South and Southwest and as an Outstanding Educator.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Leroy, Wilbert and Harold and sisters, Lottie and Etta Belle Minor.

He is survived by his wife, three sons and their wives, six grandchildren and one great grandchild as well as his sister.

Services will be held at the First Christian Church of Stillwater on Monday May 2, 2011 at 2:00.

Herbert Lee Fisher
November 6, 1930 ~ February 25, 2012


Herbert Lee Fisher, 81, died on February 25, 2012 in Houston, Texas. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Strode funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He was born on November 6, 1930 to Herbert and Ellen Fisher in Rio Grande City, Texas. He joined the Navy in November 1948 and received honorable discharge in November 1952. He married Ethel Rachel Smith on January 23, 1955 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

He is preceded in death by his parents and wife.

He is survived by his daughter, Betty Chastain; two grandsons, Anthony and Lonnie Chastain; one sister, Iva Johnson; and beloved friends and extended family.

Zelma Jane [Higgins] Seal

Zelma Jane Fisher, 77, of Stillwater, Okla. died Saturday, April 19, 2008 in Stillwater. Private family interment will be held in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Fisher was born on January 30, 1931 in Coyle, Okla. to James William Higgins and Grace Mae [Long] Higgins. She married Willard Evan Seal; he preceded her in death on December 28, 1951. She married Ralph James Fisher on June 15, 1953 in Cherokee, Okla.; he preceded her in death on January 4, 1994.

She attended schools in Crescent, Lone Star and Cedar Vale. She lived in Las Vegas, Nev. for 25 years before she returned to Stillwater when she retired in October of 1990.

She liked to knit, crochet, and sew. She loved listening to music and playing her guitar. She liked to go bowling, fishing, and to the casino.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; four brothers, Verlin Higgins, Lee Higgins, Ernest Higgins, and Jimmy Higgins; and four sisters, Dorothy Shaddy, Gladys Hatch, Cora Sutton, and Linda Lomenick.

She is survived by two sons, Jerry Ralph Fisher and his wife Janice of Pauls Valley, Okla. and John Martin and his wife Debbie of Vian, Okla.; one daughter, Phyllis Jane Thornburg and her husband Jim of Stillwater, Okla.; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and one sister, Viola Dicus of Stillwater, Okla.

James E. "Jim" Fisher
February 2008


Dr. James E. Fisher, of Stillwater, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008, at the age of 75 in Norman.

He is a former associate professor at Wichita State University's College of Education, born in Fort Gibson Dec. 4, 1932. Jim moved to Stillwater during high school and graduated from Stillwater High School.

After serving in the Army from 1953 to 1955, Jim attended Oklahoma State University where he earned his bachelor's, master's and Ed.D.

Jim married Gerry Miller Feb. 20, 1955, in Stillwater and they were married 53 years.

Jim began at WSU in 1970 where he taught for over 25 years. Jim was a devoted husband and family man. He was the primary caregiver to his wife Gerry and her battle with MS.

After retirement, Jim and Gerry moved back to Stillwater where he enjoyed visits from family and friends and attending OSU sporting events.

He is survived by his wife, Gerry, of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Keith Abbott of Norman; son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Nancy Fisher of Columbus, Ohio; son and daughter-in-law, Lee and Jean Fisher of Derby, Kan.; grandchildren, Jake Abbott, MaryBeth (Abbott) Riley, Rachel Abbott, Rebekah Abbott, Kyle Fisher, Drew Fisher, Holly Fisher, Ryan Fisher and Matthew Fisher; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Carol Fisher of Houston, Texas and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, William Wayne and Mabel Fisher and his brother, William Wayne Fisher Jr.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Havenbrook Funeral Home Chapel in Norman, with burial in Stillwater, the following Monday.

Geraldine A. "Gerry" [Miller] Fisher
March 24, 1935 ~ May 24, 2008


Geraldine "Gerry" A. Fisher of Stillwater, formerly of Wichita, Kan., died Saturday, May 24, 2008, of complications due to multiple sclerosis.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Strode Funeral Home Chapel in Stillwater with the Rev. Rick Anthony officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Gerry was a loving mother, wife and grandmother. She was born and raised in Stillwater where she graduated from high school. She married James E. Fisher in 1955. Jim and Gerry moved to Wichita in 1968 where Gerry was a homemaker, raised her family and worked as a secretary at Brooks Junior High

Gerry is preceded in death by her husband, parents, Glen and Alice Miller; two brothers, James and Charles Miller; and infant daughter, Gayla Ann.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Keith Abbott of Norman; son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Nancy Fisher of Westerville, Ohio; son and daughter-in law, Lee and Jean Fisher of Derby, Kan.; sister and brother-in-law, Kay and Bob Anthony of Norman; grandchildren, Jake and Erin Abbott, MaryBeth and Rance Riley, Rachel Abbott, Rebekah Abbott, Kyle Fisher, Drew Fisher, Holly Fisher, Ryan Fisher, Matthew Fisher; great grandchildren, Jay Abbott, Luke Abbott, Carder Riley and Crue Riley; and many nieces and nephews.
