Nadine [Kerns] Powell Evans
February 1, 1916 ~ April 17, 2008


Nadine Kerns Powell Evans, 92, of Stillwater passed away Thursday, April 17, 2008, in her home at Golden Oaks Village. Family will be gathered for visitation from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Sunday at Strode Funeral Home. Interment in Sunset Memorial Gardens is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Monday with funeral services following at 1:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Stanley M. Warfield, Jr. officiating. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Nadine was born Feb. 1, 1916 in Stillwater to Owen David and Lena May [Montgomery] Kerns. She was raised in Stillwater and graduated from Stillwater High School in 1934.

After attending Oklahoma A&M;, she married Harold "Wayne" Powell on Nov. 25, 1935, in Kingfisher. After Wayne's death on Jan. 15, 1973, Nadine married Charles Albert Evans on Feb. 19, 1980, at Ft. Bragg, N.C.

During her working years, she was secretary to Murl Rogers at the OSU Alumni Office, worked at the courthouse, and was the bookkeeper for Kerns Construction until her retirement.

She had been a member of Lahoma and cherished her friends at Twentieth Century Club, the Jim Richardson Sunday school class at the Methodist church and her card-playing buddies.

She was a volunteer at the Stillwater Medical Center until a few years ago and helped with dozens of dinners at the church in her younger years.

She loved to travel, garden, play bridge, sew clothes for her grandchildren when they were young, and cook family dinners. No one could fry chicken and okra like Nadine. Her butter horn roll recipe is in numerous cookbooks and recipe boxes.

She was "nana" to dozens of her children's and grandchildren's friends and always had a hug and a smile for everyone. She never met a stranger.

Nadine was predeceased by both husbands, her parents, a brother, Loren G. Kerns and his wife, Mitzi, and a great-grandchild, Kennedy Sherer.

She is survived by her son, Dick Powell and her daughter, Deanna Powell, and their spouses Carol Ann Powell and Gary Corser. Her grandchildren are Shelly Powell Sherer and her husband, Robert, Beth Glass Worley and her husband, Craig, from Stillwater, Malinda Powell Boswell and her husband, Jay, Weslaco, Texas, Jeff Glass and his wife, Lisa, Hurst, Texas, Christian Corser, New York City, Kevin Corser, Chicago, and Kent Corser and his wife Amy, Hoffman Estates, Ill. Her surviving great grandchildren are Ryan, Cole, and Krislyn Sherer, Brendan and Brooke Worley, Jayson, Tracia and Kylie Boswell, Tyler Fioresi, Morgan Glass, and Dylan Corser. She is also survived by a niece, Gwenith Piersall, and nephew, Bob Kerns, both of Stillwater and many great-nieces and nephews and cousins.

Homer Carl Evans Jr
January 27, 1928 ~ July 31, 2008


Homer Carl Evans Jr., 80, of Stillwater, died on Thursday, July 31, 2008, in Stillwater. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday in Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Max Rudd officiating. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Aug. 9 in the Helena Methodist Church with the Rev. Lell Shilling officiating. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He was born on Jan. 27, 1928, in Cordell, to Homer C. Evans Sr. and Alpha Omega [Looper] Evans. He married Betty Ann Brown on June 2, 1947, in Seaside, Calif.

He graduated from Clinton High School in Clinton in 1945. After graduation he was inducted into the US Army where he served four years. Following his discharge, he moved to Stillwater to attend Oklahoma A&M College. He graduated from there in 1951.

He began his teaching career in Amorita and later moved to Helena where he was the vo-ag teacher for 19 years. He owned Goltry Farm Supply in Goltry until 1988 when he began his own commercial spraying business. He moved to Stillwater in 1992 and retired in 1997.

During his retirement, he enjoyed taking his llamas to the OSU Homecoming Parade and the Christmas Parade. He was a member of the Helena United Methodist Church and a 32nd Degree Mason.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived his wife, Betty Evans of Stillwater; sisters, Helen Bailey of Lawton, Betty Lou Landers of Clinton and Donna Locke of Thousand Oaks; his brother, Curt Evans and his wife, Kay, of Arcadia; his uncle, Ivan Evans and his wife, Erma, of Yukon; three daughters, Carla Wilsey and her husband, Doug, of Stillwater, Diane Fenton and her husband, Eddy, of Crescent and Janet Langdon and her husband, Steve, of Blackwell; eight grandchildren, Evan Fenton and his wife, Kristie, of Piedmont, Rachel Williams and her husband, Robin, of Rowlett, Texas, Russ Fenton of Wichita Falls, Texas, Amy Miller and her husband, Mark, of Silver Spring, Md., Clay Wilsey or Norwich, Conn., Leah Wilsey of Olathe, Kan., Kristi Howey and her husband, David, of Stillwater and Danny Langdon and his wife, Emily, of Oklahoma City; and 11 great grandchildren.

Betty Ann [Brown] Evans
April 4, 1929 ~ February 13, 2013


Betty Ann [Brown] Evans, 83, died on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 in Blackwell, Oklahoma. Her funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at the Strode Funeral Home Chapel in Stillwater, Oklahoma with Norman Richmond officiating. A visitation will be held before the service from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Betty was born in Custer City, Oklahoma on April 4, 1929 to Wesley Parks and Emily Elva [Weiser] Brown. She graduated from Custer City High School in the late 1940's. On June 2, 1947, she married Homer Carl Evans in Seaside, California. They lovingly raised three daughters, and enjoyed over 60 years of marriage before Homer's death in 2008. Betty was a member of the Eastern Star as well as the First Methodist Church in Helena, Oklahoma.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Parksine Gibbs; and brother, Ed Brown.

She is survived by her daughter, Carla Wilsey, and her husband, Doug; daughter, Diane Fenton, and her husband, Eddy; daughter, Janet Langdon, and her husband, Steve; eight grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; brother, Joe Dent Brown; and sister, Mildred Driver. Pallbearers include Evan Fenton, Rusty Fenton, Clay Wilsey, David Howey, Danny Langdon and Matt Hamilton. Robin Williams, Brian Blagg and Mark Miller will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
