Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 28, 2008, at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Tim Walker officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Edmundson graduated from Shawnee High School in 1933, and attended Oklahoma Baptist University for one year prior to moving to Stillwater. In 1938, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Economics from Oklahoma A&M College, and began his career with the Agricultural Adjustment Administration.

In June 1942, he was called to active duty and inducted into the United States Army at Fort Sill, OK. He was transferred to Camp Carson in Colorado Springs, CO, and assigned to the Adjutant General's office in the 89th Infantry "Rolling W" Division Headquarters.

On November 14, 1942, while in Colorado Springs, he married the former Rose Marie Crow of Wagoner, OK. He met Rose Marie when she began working in his department at the Agricultural Adjustment Administration.

During the next two years, he moved with his Division to several Army bases within the States, and in January 1945, he transferred with his Division to Le Havre, France. The Division engaged in heavy combat throughout France and Germany until the end of World War II. After the war, he served with occupation forces at Rouen, France.

In January 1946, he returned with his Division to the Port of New York enroute to Camp Chaffee in Fort Smith, AR, where he was honorably discharged with the rank of Technical Sergeant. While serving his country, he received numerous medals of honor and was decorated with two Bronze Service Stars.

In February 1946, he returned to his wife in Stillwater and his career with the Department of Agriculture. He retired in January 1980, after 42 years of service, as Head of the Production Adjustment Section of the Agricultural Stabilization & Conservation Service of the United States Department of Agriculture.

During his retirement, he was a member of the Payne County Chapter of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association. In 1988, he served as Chapter President and was Chairman of the Oklahoma State Convention. In April 2008, he attended the State convention in Oklahoma City to receive the Service Officer of the Year Award for the Oklahoma Federation. In September, he was to receive the Regional Service Officer of the Year Award in Louisville, KY.

He was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons and for the past 20 years completed annual training in tax return preparation. As a qualified Tax-Aide Counselor, he volunteered countless hours assisting retirees in preparing their Federal and State income tax returns.

He was a member of Stillwater Kiwanis and the American Legion and volunteered his time and energy to numerous civic projects including the annual Special Olympics. He was a life long member of the First Baptist Church and for many years was Secretary-Treasurer of his Sunday School class.

He was a lifetime member of the Oklahoma State University Alumni Association and was a loyal supporter of OSU athletics. He was a member of the Posse Club and an avid Cowboy basketball fan, and he and Rose Marie attended every home game.

During his 28 years of retirement, he and his wife of 65 years, logged thousands of miles traveling to all 50 states and Canada and Mexico. He loved to spend time with his family and much of the couple's travels included their two grandchildren.

His retirement years were dedicated to giving back to his community. He lived his life with exceptional character and integrity and believed that it was a much greater deed to give than to receive. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and a loyal friend to all. He will be greatly missed by his family, his community and all who knew him.

Rose Marie [Crow] Edmundson
July 16, 1920 ~ January 22, 2012

Rose Marie Edmundson, 91, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012, in her home in Stillwater. Born July 16, 1920, in Wagoner, Okla., she was the daughter of the late Vernon C. Crow and Georgia Cleckler Crow. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 26, at the Strode Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Tim Walker officiating. She will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Gardens next to her husband Arthur B. Edmundson.

Rose Marie graduated from Okay High School in 1937, and earned a degree in secretarial administration from the School of Commerce at Oklahoma A&M College in 1941. Her first job was with the Agricultural Adjustment Administration, and her boss was Arthur "Ed" Edmundson who would become the love of her life. She worked for Ed for about a year until he was called to active duty and inducted into the U.S. Army at Fort Sill and transferred to Camp Carson in Colorado Springs. Shortly thereafter, Rose Marie resigned from her job and joined Ed in Colorado Springs where they were married on Nov. 14, 1942. Eventually, Ed was transferred to Europe where his Division was engaged in heavy combat throughout France and Germany until the end of World War II.

Rose Marie returned to Stillwater and went back to work for the Agricultural Adjustment Administration while waiting for Ed's return home. In February 1946, Ed was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army and returned to Stillwater and his job at the Agricultural Adjustment Administration. Once again, Rose Marie resigned from her job, this time to start a family, and she and Ed began a life long journey together lasting 65 years until Ed's death in July 2008.

In her youth, Rose Marie was an excellent swimmer and enjoyed roller skating, ballroom dancing and ice skating. Later in life, her hobbies included gardening, cooking and sewing. She was known throughout the neighborhood for her culinary skills and was an expert seamstress. As Rose Marie's family grew to include a son and a daughter, she became involved in a multitude of activities. She was a girl scout troop leader, a little league baseball mom, a PTA mom and a cheerleader mom. Rose Marie and Ed were constantly chaperoning school events or providing transportation to Pioneer athletic events.

Rose Marie and Ed were life long members of the First Baptist Church and Rose Marie taught a preschool Sunday School class for more than 30 years. For the past half century, Rose Marie has volunteered countless hours at Stillwater nursing homes. Her contagious smile and vivacious personality provided comfort and companionship to thousands of elderly residents over the years.

In January 1980, Ed retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Rose Marie and Ed joined the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Due to her energetic, outgoing and fun loving personality, Rose Marie was appointed Chairman of the Sunshine Committee, a position she held until her death.

Rose Marie and Ed had a passion for travel and logged thousands of miles visiting all 50 states and Canada and Mexico. They loved to spend time with their family and much of the couple's travels included their two grandchildren. Rose Marie and Ed were members of the OSU Alumni Association and the Posse Club and were generous supporters of the OSU athletic program. They were avid Cowboy basketball fans and attended every home game for more than 25 years.

One of Rose Marie's favorite bible verses was I Corinthians 13:8 "Love never ends. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away; but true love is eternal."

Rose Marie had a heart of gold and asked for nothing in return. She was devoted to her family as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and a loyal friend to all. She will be greatly missed by her family, her community and all who knew her. She is now in our thoughts and memories and will always be the shining light of her family. She will forever be our "Rose" and forever loved.

Rose Marie was predeceased by her parents and one brother, George Crow. She is survived by a son, Warren L. Edmundson of Houston, Texas; a daughter, Marsha Butler and her husband Jim of Ardmore, Okla.; two grandchildren, Shana B. Mummert and her husband Jeremy and their newborn son Gavin Blaine of Olathe, Kan; and Blake T. Rambo of Oklahoma City.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made in memory of Rose Marie to the First Baptist Church Falls Creek Fund, 701 S. Duncan St., Stillwater, 74074; Judith Karman Hospice, P.O. Box 818, Stillwater, 74076; or Stillwater Medical Center Foundation, P.O. Box 2408, Stillwater, 74076.
