George Wilson Duncan
May 21, 1915 ~ December 25, 2009

DUNCAN, George Wilson, age 71, died peacefully at Stillwater Christian Villa on Friday, Dec. 25, 2009. He was born on May 21, 1915, in Franklin County, the second of three sons.

Mr. Duncan grew up in rural Tennessee, graduating from Decherd High School in 1933. He married his hometown sweetheart, Daisy Mae Duncan, on Sept. 4, 1938 and they established their family in Stillwater, Okla., having a daughter, Patricia "Pat" Ann Duncan.

Mr. Duncan began his higher education at Cameron College, Lawton, Okla. He transferred to Oklahoma A & M and graduated in 1939 with a Degree in Accounting. Mr. Duncan started his accounting career working for the firm of Cassie Bingham. In 1941 he purchased the firm, establishing G. Wilson Duncan Company, the predecessor to it's contemporary, Duncan and Onley, P.C. For G. Wilson, one career was not enough, so he branched into commercial real estate. He built Casa Mia Apartments, founded Duncan-Akers Properties, built and oversaw operations at Stillwater Christian VIlla and several other real estate ventures.

G. Wilson was very active in the community and church. He was a member of Kiwanis and served on the Board of Oklahoma Christian University. He was a member of the Stillwater Church of Christ, where he served several years as an elder and as treasurer. He was a driving force in the acquisition of the Church's current location at Duck and McElroy. He founded the Stillwater Church of Christ University Center Foundation, an outreach to college students. Over the years, G. Wilson and Daisy showed compassion and offered help anywhere they saw a need. They often provided a home and or job to family, friends, and college students; and found that to be their most rewarding work.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Daisy Mae Duncan and older brother, James Harvey Duncan.

He is survived by his daughter, Pat Duncan Akers of Stillwater; two grandsons, Chris Akers and wife Laura Berman of Kansas City, MO, and Kent Duncan Akers and wife Michelle of Stillwater; three great-grandchildren, Daisy Akers, Kallen Akers and Jovian Akers; one brother, Thomas Aaron Duncan and wife Sylvia of Stillwater; two nephews, James Robert Duncan and wife Doris of Winchester and Dan Duncan and wife Kaye of Stillwater; a niece, Andrea Duncan of Stillwater; a great-niece, Karen Myers and husband Steve of Murfreesboro,; and two great-nephews, Robert Duncan and wife Micah of Edmond, OK and David Duncan of Stillwater.

Services will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at the Stillwater Church of Christ with Rev. Richard Poe officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunset Memorial Gardens in Stillwater. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of Christ University Center Foundation, c./o Church of Christ, 821 N. Duck, Stillwater, OK, 74075. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family and an online obituary may be viewed by visiting www.strodefh.com
