Press Stillwater, Oklahoma May 2002 Arline E. [Sutton] Downing August 31, 1924 ~ May 4, 2002 Arline Downing, 77, died Saturday, May 4, 2002, in Grace Living Center. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Stanley Warfield will officiate. Private interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Strode Funeral Home. Downing was born Aug. 31, 1924, in Mildred, Kan., to Paul and Marie [Levings] Sutton. She lived with her family in Hope, Ark., where she attended school and graduated as the class valedictorian. She then attended business college in Texarkana, Ark., and upon graduation, worked as a secretary for the U.S. Air Force. She then moved with her family to Ada, where she met and married her husband, Leonard Downing, on May 21, 1948. Downing worked as a secretary for the Veterans Administration before moving in 1962 to Stillwater, where she was a secretary for the Board of Realtors. She took early retirement to stay home with her family as a homemaker. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Stillwater Medical Center Auxiliary for more than 15 years, Payne County Genealogical Society and the National Association of Federal Employees. Downing was predeceased by her parents and two sisters. She is survived by her husband; one son, Richard Downing and his fiancee, Shelly O'Sullivan, of Stillwater; and one sister, Maxine Baulch and her husband, Clyde, of Ada.
