Services for Helen Louise Dedrick will be in the First United Methodist Church, 401 W. Randolph, Enid, at 10 a.m. on Friday with the Rev. David Wiggs officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. in Sunset Memorial Gardens, 6500 S. Perkins Road, Stillwater. Arrangements are under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Dedrick, 91, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008, in The Commons Methodist Care Center in Enid. She was born March 16, 1917, in Vici, to Lonny Ray and Margaret Schramling Pierce, the first of three children.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, her brother, Roger Pierce and her husband of 62 years, Harold James Dedrick.

She attended and graduated from Northwestern Teachers College in 1938. She later received her master’s in education from Oklahoma State University in 1958.

After graduating college in 1938, she and Harold were married on June 11th in Alva and they had two children born in Waynoka.

Helen was a homemaker and she and Harold raised their children living in Waynoka, San Diego, Calif., Medford, Oklahoma City and finally Stillwater.

Harold served in the U.S. Navy for two years and followed a career in agriculture and radio-TV. When Harold retired in 1973, world travels became a big part of the next 10 years including trips to Indonesia and Japan.

She and Harold then retired to an acreage in Stillwater where they spent many marvelous years and vacationed in Lake City, Colo.

After Harold’s death in 2000, Helen moved to Enid to be closer to family in 2004.

Helen was a loving and giving sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and great-grandmother. She deeply cared for her family, friends and those around her.v She was very active in the United Methodist Church and served as a Stephen’s Minister.

She had a love of cooking, especially for family, and was excellent at it. She also had a passion for reading, working in her flower garden and corresponding with family and friends. A highlight of her life was her grandchildren. They were a true joy to her and she and Harold spent many holidays, weekends, summer vacations and special trips with their grandchildren.

Survivors include one son, Dr. Darrell Dedrick and his wife, Sandy, of Enid; one daughter, Donna Harris and her husband, Ron, of Oklahoma City; five grandchildren, Dana Ford, Stace Harris, Angela Quigg, Thad Harris and Andrew Dedrick; three great-grandchildren, Julia Ford and Katelyn and Tyler Harris; one sister, Lois Whitmarsh; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Memorials can be made through the funeral home to the First United Methodist Church, Circle of Care. Condolences may be made online at www.enidwecare.com.
