Press Stillwater, Oklahoma December 14, 2004 Leona Marie [Seward] Dean June 15, 1937 ~ December 11, 2004 Leona Marie [Seward] Dean, 67, McAlester, died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004, in her residence. Services were today at 10 a.m. in Bishop Chapel of Memories. Interment will be at 3 p.m. today in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Stillwater. The Rev. A.L. Mullins officiated. Arrangements were under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service. She was born June 15, 1937, in Ft. Cobb, to Willie Butler and Noma Lee Womack Seward. She graduated from Jennings High School and married Richard Dean Nov. 13, 1964, in Miami. They moved to the McAlester area in 1981 from Yale and then began attending school to learn to take care of the disabled. They built Sunset Acres, an independent living home, where she worked as the administrator for many years. She taught herself to play the keyboard when she was 65 years old, taught Bible study at Sunset Acres, enjoyed camping and especially enjoyed her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Eurphus Green and Edwin Green. She is survived by her husband of the home; three children and their spouses, Linda and Jim Hurst of Arpelar, Bobby and Elizabeth Stimits of Lakeshore, Miss. and Kimberly Eslick of McAlester; two sisters and brother-in-laws, Norma and Willie Traylor of McAlester and Laverne and Buddy Gripe of Maramec; two brothers and sister-in-law, William and Eva Seward of Jennings and Jimmy Seward of Olive; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Active pallbearers were Jonathan Cooper, Scott Thompson, James Morgan, Jimmy Seward, Bobby Stimits and Jim Hurst. Honorary pallbearer was Willie Traylor. |
