Linville John "Lin" Bush
May 6, 1928 ~ June 14, 2010

Linville John Bush, 82, died Monday, June 14, 2010 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Family visitation will be held from 7:00 to 8:30 PM, Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at the Strode Funeral Home. His funeral services will be 3:00 PM, Thursday, June 17, 2010 at University Heights Baptist Church in Stillwater. Interment will be a private family service at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Lin was born on May 7, 1928 to Ishmael and Nealie Bush in Clark County, KY. On October 4, 1952 he married Clara Sigle in San Antonio, TX.

Lin received his Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science at the University of Kentucky in 1948. He earned his Masters in Dairy Science at Ohio State University in 1949.

He worked briefly in the Dairy Department at the University of Wisconsin before enlisting in the Air Force in 1950. He was accepted into the Officers' Candidate School in San Antonio. After graduating he was retained as a training or tactical officer in the OCS. He served in this capacity until the termination of the Korean conflict in 1953. He was a 1st Lieutenant at the completion of his service.

Lin returned to the University of Kentucky and worked in Dairy Extension for two years. He then went to Iowa State University and obtained a PhD in Animal Nutrition in 1958. Subsequently he was hired by Oklahoma State University as an Assistant Professor. He worked for OSU until his retirement as a full Professor in 1988.

He belonged to many professional organizations that included the American Dairy Science Association, American Society of Animal Science, American Registry of Professional Animal Scientists, and the Council for Agricultural Science and Technology. In 1979 he received the Don M. Tyler award for outstanding service in the Animal Science Department.

Lin was also a member of the Stillwater Golden K Kiwanis Club and an active member of University Heights Baptist Church. He believed in doing his best for any organization of which he was a part. Consequently he served without fanfare when called upon.

In his later years, he took great delight in his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed improving his 80 acres of ranch land and raising healthy cattle. In his spare time, Lin enjoyed playing tennis, playing the piano, and participating in the Community Handbell group.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ishmael and Nealie, and his brother, William Elton.

He is survived by his wife, Clara Bush, of the home; two sons, John E. Bush of Stillwater, OK, and Mark E. Bush and wife Carol of Grapevine, TX; two daughters, Susan H. Merkle and husband Robert of Sugar Land, TX, and Peggy L. Balser and husband Steven of Lawton, OK; and one sister, Connie Duvall of Winchester, KY; as well as seven grandchildren.
