Daniel Maurice Burr, 79, of Glencoe, OK died on Saturday, April 4, 2009 in Glencoe. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at Strode Funeral Home Chapel with Father Kenneth J. Harder officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He was born on April 30, 1929 in McAlester, OK to Daniel Ira Burr and Clarica Pearl [Moore] Burr. He married Juanita [Bogan] Burr and she preceded him in death in 2006.

He attended St. John's High School in McAlester, and played on the varsity basketball team. He attended Eastern Oklahoma A&M College and majored in Petroleum Engineering.

He joined the U.S. Army in 1954 and attained the rank of Second Lieutenant and served in the Korean War. In 1956 he joined the Air Force Security Service and worked as a voice processing specialist and interpreter. While in the Air Force he attended 5 years of language school in California, New York, and Washington D.C. He was fluent in 6 languages including Russian, Vietnamese and Chinese. After retiring from the Air Force in 1973, the family moved to Glencoe where he served as Mayor. He worked for a number of years for National Standard Company in the Research and Development Department.

He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 1843 in Glencoe where he served as Chaplin, American Voice of Democracy, Senior Vice Commander, District 8 Commander, and Bingo Chairman.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and one sister, Sarah Ann Burr Kinder and her husband John.

He is survived by his daughter, Dani Lee Burr of Glencoe, OK; two brothers, William John Burr and his wife Sarah of Conners, GA, and David Patrick Burr and his wife Claudett, of Hixon, TN; and twin sister, Mary Burr Harting and her husband Leo of Glencoe, OK.

Honorary pallbearers will be Criss McGinty, Ty McGinty, Mike Smith, Steve Kinder, Paul Kinder, Sean Kinder, Jerry Kinder, Jack Burnett, and Kevin Burnett.

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to Glencoe Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 1843, 5020 Spring Creek Lane, Stillwater, OK 74074.

Dani Lee Burr

Dani Lee Burr, 63, passed away on Thursday, November 8, 2018, in Tulsa, OK. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at Sunset Memorial Gardens, in Stillwater, OK. Strode Funeral Home and Cremation is in charge of the arrangements.

Dani Lee Burr was born on August 19, 1955, to Daniel Maurice Burr and Juanita Lee Burr. Dani Lee graduated from Paragould High school in Paragould, Arkansas.

Dani Lee was a loving Christian. She lived with her parents for most of her life, and her best friend was Naughty, her cat. She was also a lifetime member of the Glencoe VFW.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Juanita Burr.
