December 22, 1947 ~ December 26, 2008


Maurice William "Bill" Burgess, 61, of Stillwater, died on Friday, Dec. 26, 2008, in Stillwater. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday in Strode Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Rusty Rhoads officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He was born on Dec. 22, 1947, in McPherson, Kan., to Roy Burgess and Clara (Hanson) Burgess. He married Marilyn Nordland in 1972, and they later divorced. He married LeAnn Huber in 1981 and they too divorced. He married Faye Burgess in 2000.

He was a retired United States Marine and resided in Stillwater. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Faye, of Stillwater; one daughter, Julie Bengston and her husband, Shawn, of Windom, Kan.; one stepson, Jake and his wife, Tammy, of Montrose, Colo.; four stepdaughters, Wanda Bales and her husband, Mike, of Morrison, Darla Lynn and her husband, Rusty, of Georgetown, Calif., Jeannie Petersen and her husband, Donnie, of Stillwater and Alberta Buffington and Jerry Sloan of Stillwater; four grandchildren, Tyler, Wyatt, Ashley and Janelle Bengston of Windom; two brothers, Dennis Burgess of McPherson and Norman Burgess and his wife, Debra, of McPherson; and one sister, Phyllis Hart of Stillwater. He is also survived by 11 step grandchildren and 15 step great grandchildren and many nieces nephews and cousins.

Pallbearers will be Eric Alltman, Ryan Altman, Mike Bales, Jerry Sloan, Joshua Thompson and Jeremey Eisensmith. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family and an online obituary may be viewed by visiting www.strodefh.com.
