Lucille "Lucy" [Berry] Boswell, 90, died Saturday, October 8, 1994, at Stillwater Medical Center.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 am Wednesday, October 12, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Dr. James Struthers and the Rev Mark Smith officiating. Services are under the direction of Colonial Chapel Funeral Home.

Mrs Boswell was born December 2, 1903, in Columbus, MO, to James Temple and Emmaline "Emma" [Hall] Berry. She married Alfred Rees Boswell on September 21, 1926, in Columbus, MO. He died February 17, 1974.

Mrs Boswell's great-great-grandfather William Templeton Berry, along with three others who came together from Madison County, KY, were the first permanent settlers in what is now Boone County, MO, 1n 1810. In 1827, Berry claimed title to a large section of land by patent deed granted by John Quincy Adams. Much of this original homestead has become a part of the City of Columbia.

Mrs Boswell attended Christian College in Columbia. After her marriage, she and her husband lived in Columbia, where he was associated with his father and brother in Boswell's Clothing Store. They later moved to St Louis, MO, where he worked at Stix, Baer and Fuller Department Store.

They moved to Stillwater in 1943 when he was recruited by Jake Katz to manage Katz Department Store. He served as manager from 1943 until his retirement. He also served on the Stillwater City Commission. Mrs Boswell worked as a department store credit adjustor.She was a member of First United Methodist Church, the SCC Duplicate Bridge groups and Women's Golf 19th Hole. Over the years, she belonged to several different bridge groups.

She was an avid golfer and served as president for the Lakeside Women's Golf Association and second president of the new country club women's golf group.

She was predeceased by her parents, her husband and one brother, Hugh Jefferson Berry.

Survivors include three cousins, Lois Roberts Grubb of Jefferson City, MO, and Opal Berry Coats and Dorothy Coats Durnil, both of Columbia, MO; and her sister-in-law, Bess Boswell Hourigan of Bartlesville. Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis Silvers, Jack Katz, Jerome Kats Goldman, Theo Goldenberg, Mickey Smith, Haskell Cudd, J. Alvin Murphy and Fred Fortney.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Women's Golf Program, care of OSU Foundation, H100, Student Union, Stillwater, Okla, 72078, or the Stillwater Community Health Center, 724 S. Duncan, Stillwater, Okla, 74074.
