April 4, 1962 ~ February 17, 2008


Carl Lester Bastion, 45, of Stillwater, died on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2008, in Stillwater. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church with Father Kenneth J. Harder officiating.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. A Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church with Deacon Bill Moler officiating. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He was born April 4, 1962, in Stillwater, to Grover Cleveland Bastion and Doris [Esparza] Bastion.

He attended Saint Francis Xavier Elementary School and graduated from Stillwater High School in 1980. He graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1991 with a business degree and was a licensed Certified Public Accountant.

He joined the US Air Force and trained at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas. He later transferred to the Oklahoma Air National Guard where he received the Air Force Achievement Medal.

He loved baseball, golf and OSU sports. He was everyone’s favorite uncle and he loved spending time with his nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, one brother, Peter Damien Bastion; maternal grandparents, Cruz and Celestine Esparza; paternal grandparents, Carl and Lucille Bastion and one uncle, James Bastion Sr.

He is survived by his mother, Doris Bastion of Stillwater; four brothers, Grover Cleveland Bastion II of Tulsa, Lester Bastion and his wife, Martha, of Dadeville, Ala., Timothy Bastion and his wife, Roberta, of Tulsa and Patrick Bastion and his wife, Susan, of Glencoe; five sisters, Patricia Boggs and her husband, David, of Moorhead, Minn., Elizabeth Troutt and her husband, Tim, of Pullman, Wash., Candida Colombo and her husband, Bill, of Marietta, Ga., Vanessa Bastion of Stillwater and Lisa Harper and her husband, Monty, of Stillwater; five uncles, Roger Bastion and his wife, Sherri, of Stillwater, Edward Esparza and his wife, Chris, of Oklahoma City, Barnabas Esparza and his wife, Annette, of Oklahoma City, John Esparza and his wife, Tammy, of Stillwater and Thomas Esparza and his wife, Stacey, of Oklahoma City; nine aunts, Virginia Sandlin of Rosedale, La., Arthelia Bridges and her husband, Byron, of Longview, Texas, Madonna Shafers of Marion, Kan., Matilda Shafers and her husband, Anthony, of Marion, Celestine Johnson and her husband, Ray, of Stillwater,, Dolores Conway and her husband, Alan, of Chandler, Margaret Medlin and her husband, Joe, of Bradenton, Fla., Bernita Baker of Madera, Calif. and Carmen Ellison and her husband, Alvin, of Tuskahoma; 22 nieces and nephews, Amy Troutt, Don Rosio, Chad and Andrea Wolfe, Heather and Scott Arsenault, Genia Schriebner, Dwayne Bastion and his wife, Heather, Julie, Joey, Dawson, Corban and Liane Bastion, Sam and Abigail Boggs, Amanda and Taylor Troutt, Andrea and Laura Colombo, Evalyn Harper and Shai Brower; nine great nieces and nephews, Noah, Olivia and Emmalee Wolfe, Michael Jorbet, Alysha Rosio, Kayla Williams, Cory Arsenault, Ryan Jordan Schriebner and Jordan Raquel and numerous cousins.
