Woodruff R. "Doc" Bartlett
July 18, 1916 ~ December 1, 2007


W.R. "Doc" Bartlett, 91, Perkins, died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2007, in Perkins. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Bible Baptist Church in Stillwater with Wayne Hardy officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He was born July 18, 1916, in Cooper, Texas, Delta County, to George Bartlett and Daisy (Gaylor) Bartlett. He married Amelia "Ellie" Harkey on April 6, 1940, in Plainview, Texas. She died Nov. 17, 2007.

"Doc" was raised on a family farm and continued farming until entering the U.S. Army. After his time in service he became a journeyman electrician and traveled throughout the United States working as a union electrician on several big jobs. His jobs eventually led him in 1963 to move to Perkins, where he and his family have resided since 1963.

He worked on the Myriad Convention Center in Oklahoma City, the Conoco refinery in Ponca City and Stillwater Medical Center. Doc eventually retired and continued his electrical trade helping older individuals in the Perkins and Stillwater area. His greatest work was his ability to help with building and constructing the various buildings of the Bible Baptist Church in Stillwater, where he was a charter member. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and visiting with other community members.

He served in the U.S. Army from Aug. 23, 1943, to Feb. 26, 1946. He was active during the Sou Philippines Liberation and also at Luzon. He received the American Theater Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Medal, the Philippine Liberation Medal and a Good Conduct V-Medal.

He was a Master Mason member of Masonic Lodge No. 92 of Perkins.

He was predeceased by his parents; his wife; seven brothers, Vernon Bartlett, Gayler Bartlett, George Bartlett Jr., O'Dell Bartlett, Herman Bartlett, Fraser Bartlett and Paul Bartlett; and two sisters, Mary [Bartlett] Quarles and Wanda Nell [Bartlett] St. Pierre.

He is survived by one daughter, Linda Bartlett and husband Bob of Perkins; one grandson, Travis Majors and his wife Velma of Perkins; four great-grandchildren, Bryce and Tyler Mason and Abigail and Zachary Majors, all of Perkins; one brother, Leonard Bartlett; and three sisters, Lois [Bartlett[ Fitzpatrick, Margaret [Bartlett] Stone and Martha [Bartlett] McCandless.

Amelia E. "Ellie" [Harkey] Bartlett
October 23, 1917 ~ November 17, 2007


Amelia E. "Ellie" Bartlett, 90, of Perkins, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2007, in Perkins. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Bible Baptist Church with Pastor Wayne Hardy officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She was born Oct. 23, 1917, in Pottsville, Ark., to James Virgel Harkey and Euna (Warren) Harkey. She graduated from Pottsville High School in 1938. She married Woodruff "W.R." "Doc" Bartlett April 6, 1940, in Plainview, Texas. They lived in the Lubbock, Texas, area for about 15 years before Mr. Bartlett started moving to different job sites across the U.S. In 1964, they moved to Perkins, where they have lived since.

She was a very loving and devoted wife for 67 years.

She was a very loving and caring mother, grandmother and Granny. She enjoyed gardening, fishing and reading her Bible. She was a charter member of Bible Baptist Church in Stillwater where she was a cornerstone of the nursery program for over 20 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Elmo Harkey, J.V. Harkey Jr. and Fred Harkey and one sister, Mary Fritzler.

She is survived by her husband, W.R. Bartlett of Perkins; one daughter, Linda Bartlett of Perkins; one grandson, Travis Majors and his wife, Velma, of Perkins; four great grandchildren, Bryce and Tyler Mason and Abigail and Zachary Majors, all of Perkins and one brother, Bill Harkey of Lubbock.
