Bobby Joe Baker

Bobby Joe Baker, 76, died on Friday, January 12, 2007 at Stillwater, Okla. Services will be held Wednesday, January 17, 2007 at 2 p.m. at Highland Park Free Will Baptist Church, Stillwater, Okla. with Dr. Norman Richmond and The Reverend Jonathan McEntire officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Stillwater, Okla. with Strode Funeral Home handling all of the arrangements.

Bobby was born on October 5, 1930 in Enid, Okla. to Charley Lowell Baker and Frances Wilma (Gordon) Baker. He married Jane Evelyn McLaughlin on June 5, 1949 in Ripley, Okla.

He attended school in Ripley and graduated from Ripley High School in 1948. He lived in Mehan, Orlando, Crescent, Stillwater, and Duncan. He liked to play music and play baseball. He worked as a carpenter, farmer and oilfield worker.

Bobby was a member of Free Will Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Bill, Johnny and John Baker; and two sisters, Charlene Dean and Joann Gray.

Bobby is survived by his wife, Jane Baker of Stillwater, Okla.; two sons, Charles L. "Chuck" Baker of Stillwater, Okla. and Barry A. Baker and his wife, Lynda of Stillwater, Okla.; three grandchildren, Amber Baker of Stillwater, Okla., Krista Becker and her husband, Travis of Yankton, S.D., and Tim Baker of Yankton, S.D.; three great-grandchildren, Ashli, Chloe and Tori Becker of Yankton, S.D.; four brothers, Jim Baker and his wife, Opal of Perkins, Okla., Jack Baker and his wife, Nancy of Virginia Beach, Va., Jerry Baker and his wife Roberta of Glencoe, Okla., and Rick Baker and his wife, Sally of Jay, Okla.; two sisters, Marjorie Walters and her husband, Leon of Stillwater, Okla. and Shirley House and her husband, Ronnie of Henderson, Ky.

Pallbearers are Gary Baker, Kerry Baker, Walt Sumner, Mike Collier, and Jerry Phillips.

Marjorie Y. [York] Baker

Marjorie Y. Baker, 82, Stillwater, died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001. Services were held at 11 a.m. today at Strode Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. William S. Inglish officiated. Interment was at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Baker was born Dec. 31, 1918, to Nelson Burl and Blanche Viola [Stroup] York in Tulsa. She married Raymond Harold Baker June 11, 1966, in Stillwater.

Baker graduated from Tulsa Central High School. After graduation, she came to Stillwater and earned her bachelors degree and masters degree from Oklahoma State University. After college, she worked in Ft. Leonard Wood Hospital in Missouri in the laboratory during World War II. Also during WWII, she worked in DX Refinery experimental lab and as a clothing specialist with the OSU Extension.

She was a member of the First Christian Church, Oklahoma Home Extension Association and National Home Economics Association.

Baker is predeceased by her parents and one brother.

She is survived by her husband; one brother, Chapin Burl York and his wife Joy of Tulsa; three nephews; and one niece.

Jane Evelyn [McLaughlin] Baker
October 20, 1932 ~ February 7, 2014


Jane Evelyn Baker, 81, passed away February 7, 2014 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Her funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at the Strode Funeral Home Chapel with Norman Richmond officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Jane was born October 20, 1932 to Orville Andrew "Whitie" McLaughlin and Ruby Betz in Ripley, Oklahoma. She married Bobby Joe Baker on June 5, 1949.

She attended Ripley High School. She attended Highland Park Free Will Baptist Church. Jane played the piano for church and occasions for many years. She also played guitar and sang at the nursing homes, Ingalls and many other functions. After marrying Bobby Joe Baker they farmed east of Stillwater where they lived for 45 years. She managed the Cotton Lab at the OSU Agriculture Research Center where she retired in 1994. She had many friends, enjoyed people and loved her family and the Lord Jesus very much. She is preceded in death by her parents; Orville and Ruby McLaughlin. Her husband; Bobby Joe Baker; one sister; Lura Casey; and one brother Orville McLaughlin.

She is survived by her son Charles Baker of Stillwater; Barry Baker and his wife Lynda of Stillwater; Granddaughter Amber Kaiser and husband Jerib of Tulsa; Granddaughter Krista Becker and husband Travis of Yankton, South Dakota; Grandson Tim Baker of Yankton, South Dakota. She is also survived by four Great Grandchildren; Ashli, Chloe, Tori and Zach Becker of Yankton, South Dakota. Jimmy Leroy Baker

Jimmy Leroy Baker, 73, of Perkins, died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2007, in Stillwater. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Freewill Baptist Church with Pastor Norman Richmond officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Palmer-Marler-Carberry Funeral Home.

Jim was born in Jennings to Charley and Frances Baker July 24, 1934, and attended school in Ripley and Glencoe.

Jim was husband to Opal and father to April Baker of Sherman, Texas and Autumn and husband, Tim Williams, of Chicago. He was grandpa to Kirstin Avants-Baker and Kaleb, Hannah, Micah, Imani, Phoebe and Malachi Williams.

Jim's brothers and sisters are Jack Baker and wife, Nancy, of Virginia Beach, Va., Jerry Baker and wife, Roberta, of Glencoe, Rick Baker and wife, Sally, of Jay, Marjorie Walters and husband, Leon, of Stillwater and Shirley House and husband, Ronnie, of Henderson, Ky., as well as sister in-law, Caroline Magness of Perkins.

He is preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Bill, Johnny, John and Bob Baker and two sisters, Charlene Dean and Joann Grey.

He was uncle George to many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Everyone who knew Jim quickly developed their own rapport with him. There are endless tales of teasing and laughter and there was never any doubt that Jim was a cherished friend to all.

Jim was an avid fisherman who caught many large fish including some prize winning catfish. He enjoyed hunting elk in Colorado and this season while hunting locally, bagged a trophy buck with 13 points. He was well known for his smoked bbq and secret sauce and tall tales.

Johnny Guy Baker

Johnny Guy Baker, 65, Mehan, died at his sister's Stillwater residence Tuesday, April 23, 2002.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Sunset Memorial Gardens. Rev. Larry Eslinger will officiate.

Flag presentation at the cemetery will be provided by Hanner-Sharp American Legion Post 129. Visitation at the funeral home will be Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Colonial Chapel Home.

Baker was born Sept. 23, 1936, to Charlie Lowell and Frances Wilma [Gordon] Baker in Jennings. He attended Ripley and Glencoe public schools, graduating from Glencoe High School. After his education, he owned and operated Baker's Service Station in Ripley and joined the U.S. Army in 1956. He was honorably discharged from the service in 1958 and returned to Ripley, where he began working for G.R. Pierce Oil Properties as a pumper. He continued in that capacity until 1980. He then became involved in the livestock industry and was active in that endeavor until the time of his death. He was an accomplished outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting and trapping.

He was also a founder and charter member of the Ripley Round-Up Club.

Baker is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Charlene Dean and Joan Gray; and one brother, William "Bill" Baker.

He is survived by one son, John Patrick Baker and his companion, Lois Morse, Glencoe; granddaughter, Heather Deanna Baker, Wellston; five brothers, Bob Baker and wife Jane, Stillwater, Jack Baker and wife Nancy, Virginia Beach, Va., Jim Baker and wife Opal, Perkins, Jerry Baker and wife Roberta, Glencoe, and Rick Baker and wife Lois, Jay ; and two sisters, Shirley House and husband Ronald, Henderson, Ky., and Marjorie Baker Stroup, Stillwater.
