James Clinten Atherton

Services for James Clinten Atherton, 75, of 2026 Iba Drive, will be at 3:30 pm Saturday, June 19, at Strode Chaoel, Dr Rodney W. McGlothlin officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Strode Funeral Home.

He died Wednesday, June 16, 1883, at Stillwater Medical Center.

Atherton was born July 2, 1917, in Red Rock, son of Clinten and Bess [Evans] Atherton. He graduated from high school in Red Rock in 1934 and received a BA degree in agricultural economics from Oklahoma A&M in 1938. An MS in statistical economics degree was earned from Northwestern in Urbana Ill.

During World War II he enlisted in the Navy and served in the Panama Canal. He was sent to officers training at Harvard and then returned to the states and worked for the Agriculture Economics Department at OSU, of which two years were spent in Ethiopia. He retired in 1974.

On July 22, 1976, he married Catherine M. Thompson in Stillwater.

Atherton was a member of the Christian Church in Red Rock.

Survivors include his wife, two step-sons, William L. Thompson of New Zealand and R. M. [Mark] Thompson of Winston-Salem, NC; a step-daughter, Mrs Kenneth [Betty Catherine] Casey of Oklahoma City; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs William [Josephine] Diehm of Oklahoma City.

Catherine M. Thompson Atherton

Services for Catherine M. Atherton. age 82, will be held at Strode Funeral Home Chapel in Stillwater, Ok., Monday 2:00 p.m.

She was a founding member of the Stillwater Golf & Country Club, Past President of the Stillwater Country Club Women's Golf Association, an active member of the Central Oklahoma Women's Golf Association & Women's Oklahoma Golf Association.

Memorials to Judith Karman Hospice, P.O. Box 818, Stillwater, Okla.

She is survived by 1 daughter, Betty Catherine & husband Charles Kenneth Casey of Okc, and 2 sons Bill & wife Catherine Anne Thompson of Lansing, Michigan, Mark & wife Patricia Thompson of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; 7 grandchildren & 8 great grandchildren.
