Deceased Name: Charles Gerard Anaya

Charles Gerard Anaya, 50, of Stillwater, died Friday, Nov. 9, 2007, in Stillwater. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the First Presbyterian Church with Dr. B. Gordon Edwards and the Rev. Leah Hrachovec officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family will greet friends from 4-5:30 p.m. Sunday in Strode Funeral Home. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He was born Aug. 29, 1957, in Vaughn, N.M., to Charlie Anaya and Dolores (Lopez) Anaya. He married Shelly Manning April 29, 1984, in Albuquerque.

He worked for several years as a USDA Hot Shot Forest Firefighter before becoming a firefighter for the city of Santa Fe, N.M. He moved to Stillwater to work as a firefighter for the city of Stillwater and later became a deputy fire marshal.

He was a member and elder at the First Presbyterian Church where he also taught Sunday school. He enjoyed coaching sports, especially when they involved his children.

He is survived by his wife, Shelly Anaya of Stillwater; one daughter, Libby Anaya of Stillwater; one son, Alex Anaya of Stillwater; parents, Charlie and Dolores Anaya of Albuquerque; two brothers, Henry Anaya of Albuquerque and Daniel Anaya of Albuquerque; three sisters, Frances Pittman and her husband, David, of Albuquerque, Margaret Kinney and her husband, Kevin, of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Bernadette Tapia and her husband, Xavier, of Rio Rancho, N.M.; mother-in-law, Marie Manning of Stillwater; two sisters-in-law, Sharon Boyer and her husband, Leon, of Stillwater and Donna Lowry and her husband, Todd, of Tulsa and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to a scholarship fund for Children of Stillwater Firefighters through Spirit Bank, 417 S. Perkins Road, Stillwater, 74074.

Parking will be available on the day of the service at Strode Funeral Home Chapel.

Fire trucks from other towns came to Stillwater on Tuesday to staff stations while Stillwater firefighters and trucks were at the funeral for Charles Anaya, a Stillwater deputy fire marshal who died Friday.
