Clara B. [Backhaus] Amey

Clara [Backhaus] Amey of Stillwater died Wednesday, Jan 13, 1992, in the Stillwater Medical Center at the age of 88.

Services will be at 2 pm Saturday in Strode Chapel with the Rev Larry Eslinger officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Syrode Funeral Home

Mrs Amey was Born Jan 5, 1905, in Guthrie to William and Emma [Linkugel] Backhaus. She graduated from Guthrie High School in 1923 and received her degree in home economics from Oklahoma State University in 1927.

She taught school for several years and then worked with the 4-H Extebsion and Extension Homemaker groups until retirement in 1969. She was a member of the Methodist Church.

She married Oscar C. Amey June 23, 1970, in Stillwater. She was a member of the Oklahoma Retired Educators Association and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

Mrs Amey was predeceased by her parents; husband; four brothers, William, Fred, Albert and Henry Backhaus; and three sisters, Marie Backhaus, Linda Austin and Minnie Edwards.

Survivors include four step-sons, Neal Amey of Stillwater, Robert Amey of Yukon, Lynn Amey of Enid and Eldon Amey of Welch; two step-daughters, Joan Blankenship and Jean Hite, both of Stillwater' one brother, Martin Backhaus of Fowler, Colo; one sister, Louise Arganbright of Alva; and eight grandchildren.

Pallbears are Clyde Matheson, Eldon Lamb, Paul Blankenship, Clint Hayden, Mike Cheary and Leonard Spencer.

Honorary pallbearers are Chris Blankenship, Dustin Amey, Ryan Amey and Tommy Long.

Oscar Clark Amey

Oscar C. Amey, Rt 1, died Friday, Oct 22, 1976, at Stillwater Hospital. He was 67.

Services will be at 10:30 am Tuesday at the Strode Chapel with the Revs Virgle Calvert and Marlin Emmons officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens with a flag presentation by the Hanner-Sharp Americal Legion Post 129.

Amey was born southeast of Ingalls Aug 2, 1909, the son of Robert Wesley and Catherine Elizabeth Amey. He was a 1928 graduate of Ripley High School and a 1933 graduate of Oklahoma State University with a bachelor's degree in animal science.

His varied agricultural career included being a county agent in Latimer and Johnston counties, a farmer-rancher in Payne County, veterans voyage instructor at Yale and Farm Home administrator.

He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the Modern Woodmen of America

Preceding Amey in death were a brother and a sister.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Robert of Sand Springs, Eldon of Rt 1, Neal of Glencoe, and Lynn of Enid; two sisters, Mrs. Harold [Jean] Hite, Glencoe and Mrs Roy [Joan] Blankenship of 2313 S Walnut' five grandchildren; a brother, Jonas, Ponca City; and three sisters, Mrs Julia Ison, Seattle, Wash, Mrs Vinson [Mary] Lockwood. Oklahoma City, and Louise Amey, Wewoka.

Eldon Elliott "Slim" Amey

Eldon "Slim" F. Amey, Miami, died at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, at Integris Baptist Regional Health Center, Miami, after an illness. He was 51.

Mr. Amey was born April 17, 1949, in Cushing, to Oscar and Nelma (Patterson) Amey. He had lived in Miami for the past 11 years, moving from Stillwater.

A rancher, he attended Liberty Baptist Church, Miami.

He married Joann Thomasson on Nov. 15, 1990, in Miami. She survives, of the home.

Additional survivors include three stepsons, Jimmy Cox, Terry Cox, and Timmy Cox, all of Miami; his mother, Nelma Johnson, Stillwater; two brothers, Robert Wesley Amey, Sand Springs, and Neal Allen Amey, Stillwater; two sisters, Jean Hite and Joan Blankenship, both of Stillwater; a stepsister, Sheryl Burri, Stillwater; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Oscar Amey; his stepmother, Clara Amey; his stepfather, Wayne Johnson; and a brother, Lynn Amey.

The service is 10 a.m. Tuesday, at the Paul Thomas Funeral Home, Miami, with the Rev. Vernon Turner Jr. and Robert Amey officiating. The graveside service is 3 p.m. Tuesday, at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Stillwater.

Pallbearers are Dale Clapp, Berry Waggoner, Nolan McCall, Shawn Summers, Paul Blankenship, and Chris Blankenship. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.
