Buried on the old Yates Smith Homestead in northwestern Payne County in NW-7-19N-1E. The are was bought by the US Government and Lake Carl Blackwell constructed. The Lake comes to within about 50 yards of the gravesite. Nearby can be seen the foundation of the house. These two graves are surrounded by a 1.5 foot high rock "fence". The old "town" and post office of Yates was named for Mr. Smith.
