Rachel [Syms] Willis
December 6, 1934 ~ January 12, 2017


Rachel Willis, a former Cushing resident, now of Stillwater, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2017 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of 82 years.

The daughter of the late Minnie Bell McKinney and Bryce Syms, Sr., Rachel was born on December 6, 1934 in Sapulpa.

She attended school in Pawnee, Oklahoma and later married Archie Willis on September 22, 1952. To this union, nine children were born.

Rachel moved to Cushing in 1974, where she was a caretaker for several years. She moved to Pawnee in 1994 and worked at the Pawnee Nursing Home. After being there for six years, in 2000 she moved to Stillwater and worked as a caretaker at the Stillwater Nursing Home, now known as Grace Living Center, for years until her retirement.

Rachel enjoyed going to church; fishing and caring for others. She really loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, they were her world! Rachel was a truly heaven sent and will be missed greatly.

She leaves behind granddaughter, Tanya Arbertha and great-greatddaughters, Tylyiana and Dalisha Willis all of the home; three daughters, Elnora Shinault, Rosemary Willis and Edna Martin, all of Stillwater; four sons, Sylvester Willis of Cushing, Billy Ray Willis of El Reno, Charles Ray Willis of Pawnee and Troy Lynn Willis of Stillwater; two sisters, Norvella Palmer of Las Vegas and Ruby Johnson of Lubbock; two brothers, Lester Syms and Grisby Sims both of Tulsa; a host of nieces and nephews; twenty-six grandchildren; forty-two great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, Rachel is preceded in death by one sister Dollie Mae Syms; three brothers, Bryce Syms, Jr., Claude Syms and Jackie D Syms; two sons, Archie Willis, Jr. and Ervest Joe Willis.

Funeral services will be Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 1:00 P.M. in the First Baptist Church, Cushing with Bishop Jones of Tulsa officiating.

Burial will follow in the Silver Star Cemetery.
