Ruby Lee [Gentry] Brannon
August 1, 1918 ~ February 23, 2009


Ruby Lee Brannon, longtime Cushing resident, passed away on Monday, February 23, 2009 in the Cushing Regional Hospital at the age of 90 years.

The daughter of the late Wesley Gentry and Corabell Washington Gentry, Ruby was born on August 1, 1918 in Red Bird, OK.

Ruby was a second mom to many, including Barbara & Brenda Weaver. She not only took care of their homes, but those families that lived there. She worked hard, never complained, always had a smile and loved us all. She has taken care of three and four generations of families in Cushing and cared deeply for each of them. Through hardships and disappointments, her faith and her stamina were never ending, a constant example of what you can achieve with each. She will be missed greatly, loved eternally and remembered forever. An angel has gone home.

Ruby enjoyed sewing; baking and playing dominos.

Survivors include four grandchildren, Raymond Lee Brannon, III of Tulsa, Jimmy Brannon of Mounds, Pamela Brannon-Smith-Hathorn of Tulsa and Kermit Lee Brannon of Phoenix; fourteen great-grandchildren, Sean Brannon of Dallas, Tywanna Brannon of Tulsa, Anuica Brannon of Dallas, Chauncy Brannon of Kentucky, Darrell Carter of Tulsa, Maurice Smith of Tulsa, Dennis Mooreland of Shawnee, Chandrell Mooreland of Cushing, Tyrone Mooreland of Shawnee, Kermit Brannon, Jr. of Tulsa, Sharya Brannon of Tulsa and Jimmy Brannon, II, Tersa Brannon and Tonya Brannon of Florida; niece Ella Mae Dickens of Stillwater; great-niece, Ruby Dickens of Stillwater and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, the late Ray Brannon of the Cushing Police Department; one sister, Rosa Lee Vicks and one brother, Edward Lee Gentry.

Services will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. in the Mt. Olive Baptist Church with Reverend Jonathan Vickers officiating. The family will meet at the Davis Funeral Home, prior to services.

Burial will follow in the Silver Star Cemetery.

Dinner will be served immediately following services at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church.

Raymond Lee "R.L." Brannon III
January 1, 1947 ~ March 28, 2011


Raymond L. “R.L.” Brannon, III, a former Cushing resident, passed away on Monday, March 28, 2011 in the St. Francis Medical Center, Tulsa, OK at the age of 64 years.

Funeral services have been entrusted to the care of the Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing, OK and will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 2, 2011 in the First Baptist Church, Cushing, OK with Bishop Donald O'Neil Tyler officiating. Burial will follow in the Silver Star Lodge Cemetery, Cushing, OK. Ray found Christ at an early age and he was a faithful member at Greater Grace Church.

The son of the late Raymond Lee Brannon, II and Gladys L. [Long] Brannon, R.L. was born on January 1, 1947 in Stillwater, OK. He was reared and educated in Cushing and following high school he attended Central Vo-Tech where he learned heavy equipment operating. R.L. had worked for Payne County, owned a construction company in Oklahoma City. He later moved to Phoenix, AZ where he owned and operated Ray's Cleaning Service for 26 years. In 2004 R.L. returned to Oklahoma, moving to Tulsa. In his spare time R.L. loved to fish.

Survivors include his children, Sean Brannon and his wife Vergie of Dallas, TX, Stephon “Ray Ray” Brannon of Phoenix, AZ, Rhonda Brannon of Los Angeles, CA, Kenya Brannon of Phoenix, AZ, and Lisa Brannon of Raleigh, North Carolina; siblings, Jimmy Brannon and his wife Remona of Okmulgee, Pamela Smith-Hathorn and her husband Eddie of Tulsa, OK, Reverend Kermit L. Brannon of Phoenix, AZ, and Terry Brannon of Cushing, OK; three grandchildren, Sean Brannon, Jr., Chandrea Brannon, and Christina Brannon; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, R.L. was preceded in death by one brother, Leon Brannon; three sisters, Elweeder Brannon, Esther Brannon, and Diana Brannon Mooreland.

Rev Kermit Lee "Tramp" Brannon Sr
May 15, 1957 ~ June 22, 2020


First sermon preached - May 15, 1957. Last sermon preached - June 22, 2020.

The life of a legend born in a small town called Cushing OK. Reverend Kermit Lee Brannon Sr, affectionately called "Tramp" by his big sister Pamelo Jo. April showers brings May flowers on May 15, 1957 a son was destines to be born to the late Raymond Lee Brannon Jr and Gladys Brannon, who they named Kermit Lee Brannon in Cushing OK.

To that union eight children were born; "RL" Raymond Lee Brannon III, Elweeder, Esther, Leon, Diana Brannon and a very special grandfather, the late "Daddy Ray" Raymond Lee Brannon Sr, wh proudly served as a Cushing police officer.

Kermit leaves to cherish his loving big brother who loved Kermit dearly, Jimmy Louis Brannon, Romana and a very over protective ;oving big sister who would move heaven and earth to meet any and every need her baby brother may have had, even if he had just gotten mad at her for whatever reason. But he'd call the next day asking her fpr something or other to do something for him and you could bet you're bottom dollar she was going to answer his call and take care of whatever need he had that would be none other than bif sister Pamelo Jo Brannon Smith-Horn [Eddie]. That's just how much Pamela Jo loved her baby brother who she called "Tramp" Kermit. Kermit completed his formal education in Phoenix, AZ. After Kermit completed high school he met and married his sweetheart Samia Wilson Brannon.

Kermit then enlisted in the United States Military in 1978 after serving in the military to this union was born two sons, Kermit Jr, Sharyor and a step daughter Yashica. Later in life Kermit had a son named Kerrick, "KC."

Kermit loved sports, singing, dancing, playing pool, cooking, and most of all he loved to just cut up and have fun with his many family and friends.

Later on in life Kermit relocated back to Phoenix, AZ, a city that he loved to live in.

Kermit later on joined South Phoenix Baptist Church where he proudly served as an associate paster under pastor Dr Bernard Black for the last eleven years of his life where Kermit was ordained as a minister before he was called to glory.

So I can hear my baby brother saying "Now if you go to missing me don't cry or weorry. Just come on up to gloyr and I'll tell you a story about how I got over." Kermit

Kermit has a host of nieces and nephews, cousins that truly adored their uncle Kermit. He had extra specials nephews; Maurice, Kyante Smith and Darrell Naff, and a special niece; "Missy" Tywana Ellis-Recce. Four grandchildren and a host of family and friends.

Kermit Lee Brannon will be dearly missed by all who loved and knew him.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, July 3, 2020 at Mount Olive Baptist Church, Cushing, Oklahoma. Interment to follow at Silver Star Cemetery, Cushing Oklahoma.

Arrangements are entrusted to Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing, OK.
