18 June 1930 ~ 12 January 2015


Joe Lee Youngker, 84, of Perkins passed away on January 12, 2015 in Norman, Oklahoma. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 16 at the Christian Church, Perkins, Oklahoma with Pastor Cato "Jeff" Gill officiating. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Joe was born in Goodnight, Oklahoma on June 18, 1930. He was the first of six children born to Lorin and Alta Bickford Youngker. He attended school in Perkins and Oklahoma A&M College in Stillwater. He excelled on the Livestock and Meat Judging Teams through high school and college.

Upon graduation from college in 1953, he received a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. Joe attended basic training in Georgia and returned to Perkins in July to marry Joyce McGibbon from Meridian, Oklahoma on July 26th, 1953. For twenty years Joe served in the Army and was stationed in the U.S., Korea, Vietnam, Germany, Iran, and Japan. During his tour of duty, he received the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Award, National Defense medal, and the Legion of Merit.

Upon his retirement in February, 1973, he and Joyce began a farm and ranch operation south of Perkins. They spent the next forty years raising cattle and Skipper W bloodline Quarter Horses. He raised several World Champion horses and sold them across the U.S., Germany, Venezuela, and Mexico. Joe was injured in a farm accident on April 15th, 2013. He served as an elder of Perkins Christian Church for several years.

Joe is survived by his wife, Joyce, of Edmond; son, Dr. Mark Youngker of Edmond; daughter, Sandra Strain, and husband, Michael, of Hobart; grandson, Chris Strain of Oklahoma City; brother, Dale Youngker and wife, Alice, of Dallas, Texas; brother, Billy Youngker and wife, Betty, of Tryon; brother, Lyle Youngker and wife, Vicki, of Perkins; sister, Marilyn Price and husband, Ken, of Perkins; sister, Joyce Robbins of Perkins; their families and many nieces and nephews.
