Henry Hershall O’Dell, lifelong Cushing resident, passed away on Saturday, November 14, 2009 in Tulsa at the age of 78 years.

The son of the late Albert Simon O’Dell and Nancy Jane Horsley O’Dell, Henry was born on April 22, 1931 in Cushing, where he was reared and educated, graduating from Cushing High School in 1953.

Henry entered the United States Army on October 23, 1953 and served until his honorable discharge on September 16, 1955.

He was united in marriage to Patricia Doretta Powers on October 6, 1956 in Cushing, and to this union three sons, Jeffery, Micheal and Kenneth were born.

Henry worked for the railroad service for 43 years before his retirement; he worked 38 years for the M.K.T. Railroad and 5 years for Union Pacific Railroad.

Henry was a member of Park Place Baptist Church, the VFW and the American Legion.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching sports, football, basketball and baseball and especially enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Patricia, of the home; three sons, Jeffery Leon O’Dell and his wife Shiela Jean of Calumet, Micheal Dean O’Dell and his wife Connie Jo of Sand Springs and Kenneth Don O’Dell and his wife Amy Lenette of Cushing; five grandchildren, Jeffery O’Dell, Krishanda O’Dell, Kassi O’Dell, Samantha O’Dell and Austin O’Dell; two great-granchildren, Candice O’Dell and Dominic O’Dell; two brothers, Grover O’Dell and his wife Pam of Bartlesville and Pete O’Dell and his wife Jeanie of Barnsdall; five sisters, Greta Losey, Lucille Ward and Ramona Godsey and her husband Bob all of Cushing, Evelyn Farhbach and her husband Wayne of Texas and Shirley Moad of Guthrie; and numerous other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, Henry was preceded in death by six brothers, Jack, Strict, Albert, Harold, Lindie and David and three sisters, Ila, Deloris and Mary.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. in the First Baptist Church with Reverend Gary Brown, Pastor of the Park Place Baptist Church, officiating.

Burial will follow in the New Zion Cemetery.
