Cushing, Oklahoma March 2013 October 15, 1937 ~ March 26, 2013 James "Jim" Baker age 75 of Cushing, died on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at his home in Cushing. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 30, 2013 at the First Baptist Church, Cushing. Brother Ralph Hickman will officiate. Interment will follow at Harrell Cemetery, Cushing, Oklahoma. Arrangements are entrusted to Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing. Jim was born on October 15, 1937 in Carney to Lawrence and Lula Hagar Baker. He grew up in Cushing and attended Cushing Schools. He was an All-State Football Player, playing center for the Cushing Tiger in 1956-57. Jim graduated from Cushing High School in 1957. Jim married the love of his life Dorothy "Dot" King on January 27, 1958 in Edmond, Ok.., to this union Jeffrey and Doug were born. He was active with his boys in coaching baseball and football. He began working as a fireman and on his off days, he worked for Cushing Plumbing. He later worked for Midland Refinery/Hudson for thirteen years. In 1982, he began a career at Texaco/Shell Equilon as a pump station operator, retiring in 2000. He liked to spend time in outdoors camping and trout fishing with his family and friends. Jim was a avid hand ball player with his partner Leonard Wells at the Hand Ball Tournaments at the Youth Center. He was a faithful member of the Liars Club at Bill's E-Z out. He enjoyed attending all of his grandchildren's sporting events. Survivors include his sons Jeffrey Lance Baker and wife Quita of Cushing, Doug Baker of Cushing, grandchildren Jared Baker, Cade Baker and Mallori Baker, Taylaura Baker, Kyle and Brittani Baker, and Foster Baker, great grandchildren Mason and Camden Baker. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dorothy "Dot" Baker, daughter-in-law Karen Baker, brothers Harold, Wayne and L.G. Dean. Memorials may be made in Jim's name to the Judith Karman Hospice in Stillwater, Ok. |

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the First Freewill Baptist Church. The Rev. John Baumert will officiate. Interment will follow in the Harrell Cemetery, Cushing. Arrangements are entrusted to Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing. She was born November 14, 1938, in Agra, to Freeman D. and Edna Crauthers King. She moved to New Mexico where she lived for a while and later moved back to Davenport where she began her education. Her family moved to Cushing where she continued her education and graduated from Cushing High School in 1957. She married James Baker Jan. 27, 1958, in Edmond. She was a homemaker for many years, where she was active in PTA and Boy Scouts enjoying every moment raising her sons. She began working for Earl's Jewelry part time and worked for over 20 years. She was also employed with Dalton Precision for a short time. She was a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church. She loved spending her time in the outdoors camping and trout fishing with her family and friends. She was also an avid reader and enjoyed painting. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Jean Elliott. Survivors include her husband of 48 years of the home; sons, Jeffrey Lance Baker and wife, Quita, of Cushing and Douglas Vance Baker and wife, Karen, of Cushing; sister, Shirley Shaheen of Stella, Mo.; grandchildren, Jared, Cade and Mallori Baker, Taylaura, Kyle and Foster Baker and great grandson, Mason Baker. |
