CITY CYCLIST IS FATALLY INJURED

A Stillwater man died today from head injuries he suffered in a motocycle-car accident west of town Thursday night.

Daniel Kenneth Tarkington, 25, of 1524 S. Springfield was flown to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, in critical condition. He died at 8:30 this morning, officials said.

OHP Trooper David Neighbors said the accident happened at 10:30 p.m. a mile west of the city limites on S.H. 51.

The car, driven by Zhenhai Yang, 17, of 16-3 N. University Place and Tarkington's motorcycle were both westbound, Neighbors said.

He reported that Yang was in the right-hand lane and turned left in front of the motorcycle. The impact ejected Tarkington over the car and off the road. He was not wearing a helment.

Yang was not injured, Neighbors said.

The motocycle caught fire after impact and was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.

Battalion Chief Ray Barnard said the fire was contained to the motocycle and was extinguished with no problems.

The wreckage blocked the west-bound lane of S.H. 51 and traffic was halted while emergency crews worked.
